Saving the Neighborhood Eaterie

Jake wants a zone change for the restaurant portion of the Ives Hill CC, so the eaterie can stay open if the links close…Currently it is allowed as an accessory use to the course. There will be opposition of course from neighbors concerned over a bar in their hood.

This does beg the question of whether the nine holes will stay open…..They apparently will be operated by Shannon who now runs the restaurant.

Meanwhile City Council Member Kimball tell the Times there have been two parties who indicated interest in taking over  the Park course.

There should not be a bar in the neighbor hood

Jake and PJ are up to their usual tricks That is a beautiful residential neighbor hood They should not be operating a bar out of the club house in the winter when the golf course is closed

Watertown has enough bars We do not need one in a residential neighborhood

4:05pm what tricks are they up to since you know everything?

The neighborhood loves the restaurant FOR the bar. You don’t think all those wives play golf do you?
Funny thing is it was never an issue in the past…it simply stayed open. There’s no rule that the accessory needs to keep the same hours as the links.

No need to write a blank check zoning change for peeJake. Just grant him a variance for the one activity he CLAIMS to want the variance for…a clubhouse restaurant that is part of a golf course operation but can run off season too.

Jake has put out a lot of word salad that makes no sense.

Jake couldn’t even last 1 year running the place by himself and that’s pretty sad.

Avoiding paying the taxes they owe maybe, 4:25? 🤔

Spot zoning-nope, meeting adjourned.

Why change anything

The Bar and restaurant are operating just fine the way it is zoned now

4:50 We don't hear the wives begging to have the property rezoned

Jake and PJ should apply to have the outer 9 golf holes annexed into the city and return it to an 18-hole course. The bar and restaurant will take care of themselves.

So it's OK in the summer, but somehow becomes bad in the winter? And hasn't this place been open in the winter for years now anyway? Why complaints now??

Make Ives 18 again and close the park course. Give the city a few sheckels from the golf course at Ives per year for their trouble in ignoring the deed restriction. Easy. Ives was always the better course and now they have an eatery/clubhouse to match.

100% agree

Jake wants out not in and that’s why he’s doing this. The end of Ives will be the rezoning of the restaurant.

7:53 and 6:35 are right

Jake paid PJ way to much for the 9 hole golf course. The chickens are coming home to roost. It's not up to the city to bail Jake out. Jake wants to put houses on where the golf course used to be and have a bar in a residential neighborhood . No way

It's an accessory use to the golf course. There's no golf for 6 months therefore it's not an accessory for half the year.

Anonymous said...

Agreed. $1.7 million sheckels and the 18 hole course is his.

That bar and restaurant are neighborhood assets.

Gonna guess you don’t get out of Mom’s basement much.

Watertown needs MORE, decent licensed establishments.

Anonymous said...

Why even have zoning if you can just ask for it to be changed and poof

Anonymous said...

Well, nobody complained to the SLA about them operating out of class

Anonymous said...

Did he ever build the new storage building?

Anonymous said...

*too

No, 6:53. It's too bad, but he couldn't come up with the jack.

Golf is a nothing more than a. glorified drinking game, just artificially higher status than red solo cup beer pong. People pick up golf for the connections they may make and all the outside legal drinking they can do. All under the guise of mastering a “sport” as they age out of participating in actual sport.
Golf probably wouldn’t flourish if it was illegal to have drinks or smoke while on the course. Drinking after in the clubhouse? That’s just par for the course.

The City will cave and screw the neighbors but Jake doesn’t care. The neighbors need to come out in force just like the butterfield residents did.

Look around, there are bars in residential neighborhoods. You're a NIMBY type.

Anonymous said...

They are not operating out of class. They are licensed as a restaurant and they operate like one.

Anonymous said...

Exactly. This is a suspicious request that would allow a McDonald’s or Olive Garden to be built there and allow the golf course to be developed while keeping the restaurant.
If he can’t run the golf course then fine close it. But if he’s going to build low income housing then he has to close the accessory restaurant.

Define “paid”.

Zoning changes have long lasting effects that can’t be undone this may not always be a nice family eatery/ bar one day just like the Stewart’s it could one day be a horrible gas station thankful Stewart’s keeps it up but that isn’t always a guaranteed.
