Hard for Republicans to sell their wares when their own hired staff are dissing the party's major accomplishment the past two years....County government, with a 15-0 majority on the Leg, are blaming the Big Beautiful Bill for their decision to propose hiking the property tax level by 6.3%.
The Bill is being blamed for shifting some costs to the County.....One government blaming another. Wonder how many of the 15 are voting for Hochul ?
Don't worry GOP....Dems are not much better...One of their County Leg candidates scheduled for an interview yesterday went to a yoga class instead and the party's candidate for Congress failed to call in as scheduled.
The administering class has a trifecta of tax hikes this year, but there is no accountability.

Thanks so much Don the con. The golden age….of suckers voting for him and footing the bill on way higher costs. Stupid maga fools.
Blaming the Big Beautiful Bill for your 6.3% tax hike is a pathetic excuse. You raised the taxes, you own the mess. But I guess accountability is a lot harder than pointing fingers at Washington. Try governing instead of making excuses.
Affordability Is A Hoax‼️✡️
Posting on a blog that Trump is responsible for a 6.3% tax hike is the political equivalent of blaming the weatherman for a leaky roof. Maybe try understanding who actually raised your taxes before embarrassing yourself online.
Affordability is a small price to pay
Small potatoes
Trump/Jesus 2028
And yet all will continue to run unopposed and re-elected.
Total Fund Balance: $134.4M 2024 year end
Total Fund Balance : $119.4M 2025 year end
The county more importantly, Mr. Piche has a spending problem before they place blame anywhere else. One full year in Jefferson county and he depleted the fund balance by $15 million already. This is the same thing he did in Lewis Co
Current inflation is half of what it was under Biden, you’re correct.
The county executive should be terminated immediately. He literally blames Trump for his willingness to spare no expense in providing the fastest and best welfare system in the state.
I take money out of the credit union every week and there’s never any envelopes there to put the cash into at the ATM. I need to get receipts for my gasoline and half the time the printer doesn’t print and I have to go inside. And the only person working is making Sundaes while there is a line at the register. I use the restroom at a bar and the paper towels were empty for me to come out with wet hands.
Yet this county executive ensures that any criminal drug addict gets cash handed to him within hours of presenting at the old Sears and Roebuck building. And he borrowed millions in order to revamp the place.
Ask the County how much they spent to buy The Workplace on Coffeen. They rent the place for 15 years, THEN they want to buy it outright? And then supposedly do renovations? Hey, it's just other people's money...
Massie / Taylor-Greene / 2028
Make Conservatism Hip Again
Conservatism is a sham. Too bad people are so dumb they can only find out the hard way.
Riiight, has nothing to do with millions spent on idiotic projects at the airport that were to secret. But we have huge planters and expensive siding and wall coverings to show for it!
We should examine county spending, reserves, and the effectiveness of our local government as well. But none of that erases the federal policy decision that created this new expense.
Perhaps it's time for our county legislators to ask their congressional representatives to explain how the legislation they supported benefits the taxpayers now being asked to shoulder its costs.
The real question isn't whether Republicans can successfully sell their wares. It's whether those policies deliver what was promised — and whether party loyalty has become more important than accountability to the people they represent.
We need more independent thinking, greater policy expertise, meaningful political competition, and serious public debate in Jefferson County government.
Ryan Piche is identifying a real problem. Don't shoot the messenger. Address the policy.
Cliff Olney
God forbid Washington should be blamed for extreme prices and the mess our country is in, if you're a MAGA. Crap flows downhill.
Dream on, 8:38.
To sum it up, you have an extremely boring life and are at least 70.
Keep praising trump you bunch of old bastards
8:38, it was 9% for 2 weeks
Calm down and get ready to navigate the wave
Has the county even realized the savings they're going to get by not having to pay for services for ILLEGAL ALIENS that the Big Beautiful Bill has squashed? If the county insists on supporting these criminals, then perhaps they should do it on their dime and not on the backs of the U.S. citizen taxpayers.
What a piche 💩 this budget is🤑

These new expenditures are also supplanting the county’s commitment to capital improvements,
highway infrastructure, and economic development, which have been reduced by nearly $5M in
2027. This is the most direct and clear example of state and federal priorities crowding out local
needs, and the legislative agenda of the Board of Legislators. Of the $70.5M levied in this budget,
state and federal mandates will account for 94% of that spending. By 2028, it is expected that state
and federal mandates will exceed 100% of the property tax levy.
New York State’s total spending has increased 70% ($52B) since 2020, and they are taking counties
along for the ride.
It should also be noted that over the last ten years, Jefferson County has worked hard to suppress
levy growth, despite inflationary pressure on costs. Since 2017, inflation has increased 34%, yet the
county’s property tax levy has increased only 19%.

Numbers don’t lie.
Local property tax payers are subsidizing tax cuts for wealthiest Americans.
No, 10:27, 8:39 is totally correct.
Perhaps the county should cut back on the benefits for all of the lazy people. I have no issue with the elderly, widows, orphans, etc. getting benefits but I am in Watertown enough to witness way too many able bodied people tweeking out in front of the Urban Mission and Salvation army to know that we have a PROBLEM. Stop feeding the beast.
I'd go with Massie, but not with MTG as a running mate.
Wrong 8:38, current inflation is higher than it was when Biden left office.
Trump has made everything worse.
"Perhaps the county should cut back on the benefits for all of the lazy people."
And then who would be left to vote for Republicans?
What federal policy is that, Clifftard? Specifically. Making able bodied people look for work while getting a medicaid handout has nothing to do with our budget.
Keep making excuses for your orange clown, 8:09. We'll all keep pointing it out.
And likely been on welfare their entire life, 10:27.
How does the expense of your purchasing a golf course benefit us taxpayers, cliff?
