Get It Over With

I get a lot of texts, one claiming inside knowledge on tomorrow's final budget session...In particular that there are five employees making in the $40s who were called into with their department head and union rep to be told their jobs were on the line.....Nice to leave people hanging if true, but it also might explain the rapid , unanimous vote to override the tax cap the other night.....

Aside from whether the low end jobs are low hanging fruit, there are six figure jobs apparently protected.

I don't think anyone gets laid off...They will take the 8% increase minus that $5K in lawnmower blade sharpening and call it a day....

And as usual you'll probably be wrong.

I think you are right for a change. Watertown has not laid off anyone in 50 years…only increased job force. For instance Cliff and Lisa hired more planner, more fire queens, more cops, a golf pro and filled old vacancies.

Hope & prayers to the people and familes affected by this. 🙏

I think the last major cuts were in the Larry Cooke era around 1990.

I belive they were at 11% or 12 % when they started. I hate to say it, but those workers have probably been cut to get it to 8%.

Layoff all 5 council people, and the Wag, save $200000 for people doing nothing.

Dr. Kimball's words on monday night might have had a bit of dark foreshadowing. He said what are we going to do? Cut 5 jobs every year when we need to close the gap....

How does the city hope to attract good applicants in future by treating people like this?

Good job breaking another story, Flat Earth!

Seriously, the city is doing them a favor. Enjoy a summer vacation on their dime and find a better job.

If those jobs were safe, they would have been told by now.

The city manager can violate the city charter residency clause and then get a raise for it.
