The linkage is something that can only help Republican John Byrne who is not running on a campaign to promote himself but is strictly making the argument the district should elect a Republican not beholden to downstate interests.

In this Trumpian year, incumbency is no guarantee of anything, and the corruption issue is a strong one when Democratic icons like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have also talked at length of a "rigged" system.
Ms. Russell needs to compare her character to that of her opponent, and that means stepping up the attacks in tomorrow's brief TV debate. All Mr. Byrne needs to do is keep talking about NNY not getting its fair share and reminding votes of the incumbent's support for Mr. Silver.
