Raising Money Off Firefighters

First of all, let me stipulate we in radio do the same thing.....Calling businesses and pitching them on sponsoring ads in favor of cops or against drugs..... It's a proven way to make money.
So in that context, I chuckled this morning when I opened the WDT (which I do subscribe to) and saw a display ad asking people to buy ads for a special fireman edition on October 26, to send a message to the "thousands" of firefighters who put their lives on the line in NNY.
A promotion like this will get ads from unions, fire equipment supply companies , firefighters themselves, grateful citizens and....and....well that's about it.
Current debate over the expense and role of firefighters may juice the take, but be clear....Those selling the ads are the most adamant supporters of efforts to bust the fire cabal they see crippling Watertown.
They should run a special section where you can pay tribute to your local City Council...

And the ads aren't taxed either?

I bet the WDT will give all the proceeds to firefighters.

council, yea right. the same folks that have over the past decade just wasted tax payer dollar after tax payer dollar and driven this city into the drug infested area that it has become. i am on the same page with you in regards to the ad, but, the council here needs no tribute, it needs results.

Council are you kidding me!! They gave all sorts of tax breaks to contractors who over built in the watertown area that created the zombie home problem. Thank god that stupid mercy project is not happening . More housing you say ? Your all on drugs .

4:04, we are going to need that housing in a few years if we get all those terrorist refugees transplanted here.

Just like you to find a way to further insult the hard working public employees and community volunteers that literally put their lives, and health, on the line. We promote all kinds of causes a in this country that could considered promoted for other reasons. Valentines Day? Really. Who makes the money; florists, candy makers, greeting card people, restaurants, etc... This does not mean that we don't actually love our significant others. I got news for you Jeff, not everyone feels the same way that you do. Many of us actually appreciate firefighters and what they do. I have read many articles in the times and most seemed to be pro-firefighter. I remember an editorial by Mr. White that condemned the city for not negotiating and criticized them for their tactics. Nice try tho Jeff.

Only you could try to equate what firefighters do to what councilmen do.

Let's see one is willing to give their lives to save someone they do not even know; they work holidays, weekends, and nights; go out in all weather conditions; encounter all types of danger, and pathogens; restore life when someone is dying; and crawl into burning buildings before they burn down the entire neighborhood.

The other's are self-promoters and ego-maniacs that attend meetings, go on TV, hold "executive sessions", get pampered at balls, hire their buddies, spend our money on BS, and make all kinds of false promises.

Very close. I see how your could equate them now.

Raise money for council members.. Yeah right.. Maybe to get them thrown off the bench.. They have wasted more taxpayer money than the unions in the city have asked for. Police, Fire, CSEA , they all have been on the block by the city council and CM, but the money spent on their tactics have far outweighed the money they could have negotiated and made their employees feel like average citizens and appreciated by their employer.
It was nice to see some of them at the fire department awards night. I can't imagine how uncomfortable they were sitting up there and knowing what they are doing to their members. The CM couldn't get out of their fast enough and the mayor couldn't even get himself to offer some closing thoughts or appreciation to the members receiving an award.. Nice job Mr. Mayor.. it really shows how your words of support when forced to speak about employees mean something but nothing to most of the employees.

7:51, Do tell? We are all waiting with baited breath to find out which of your paragraphs describes the fire queens and which describes the council.

I'd like to thank the idiots in the fire department for stopping in the middle of Clinton Street yesterday for no reason. We really appreciate you holding up traffic just because you can.
