The NY Times was sent copies of three pages of Donald and Marla Trump's 1995 tax return and has made a journalistic leap by employing "experts" to extrapolate what the numbers mean and concludes Mr. Trump may have paid no income tax over 18 years.
It's voodoo journalism as the volumes of documents filed that year and every year isn't seen.
We all pay taxes...sales, property, sin, and many others, even though in a given year, business losses or other factors could result in no income taxes paid.
When you read the Times account and if you have some level of business or tax knowledge, you realize what a hit piece this is as it will be reported as fact and then people will be asked to react to it creating a news cycle lasting for days.
A poll out this week shows 52% don't care about his tax returns but it's an issue that will be used over the next five weeks and the fact the Times has what they call an exclusive will keep the waters roiled.
