WWNY: Finley Seen as Populist Outsider

Next Tuesday's GOP primary in the River District is hard to predict as any polling is likely private and known only to the true insiders.  TV 7 labels Russ Finley as the outsider....a gregarious, passionate populist pushing a Trumpian blue collar angry man persona. I don't know if that plays with establishment, cloth coat Republicans, especially since Mr. Finley is not viewed as a particularly loyal Republican.
However, his hope is the other vote is split between likely SLC winner Bill Sheridan and possible Jefferson County winner John Byrne. Could you win, by carrying neither county ?
Mr. Sheridan seems the traditional party choice. A career in government, including a stint with a former GOP Member of Assembly and time as county legislator and party chair.
Mr. Byrne is the 2014 standard bearer with the me-too lines in tow who would seem to have the tacit support of state Republicans who see how close he came two years ago to defeating Assemblywoman Addie Russell.
About eight or nine thousand Republicans are expected to vote on Tuesday when the polls open from noon to nine.

There is that awesome "populism" word again. Its a great word for pointy headed professors and activist editors to use, in an attempt to dismiss the fact that most people don't agree with their idiotic Utopian ideas they muse over in the faculty lounge or at the editorial water fountain. Of course we're not talking about the type of professors who could actually pass a basic physics, chemistry, statics or diff eq course, but rather the egghead ivory tower type, who are convinced they excel in womyn's studies, gender studies diversity & sensitivity class; or as the case may more often be, in advocacy journalism.

Political outsider is right. Rusty, played spoiler in the last election, by running as a third party conservative. In doing so, he effectively handed the race to Russell on a silver platter.
Keep beating that unSafeAct drum Finley. You're nothing but a wannabe. A one note Charlie...

Oh Jeff, Finley is an outsider for sure. Just ask anyone in his neighborhood, or for that matter hometown. Sheridan stands out as the only lifelong Republican with experience. Byrne was the best option 2 years ago, for all that we had, but now way out of his league. The only spoiler this time is when Sheridan wins primary and gets screwed by Byrne and all his other lines. Not being an attorney he cannot run for Judge somewhere else.

Whomever Addie wants to run against should not be the nominee.

Maybe but Finley ate Sheridans lunch tonite on Jeff Cole's show. Byrne was lost in space ,while Sherdan was your typical bureaucratic ,old school , tax and spend politician looking for the gravy train .

Sheridan had very weak responses when pushed on economic develoment which he sees as public spending to support public sector jobs in an insustrial park in Canton ...it was a. Real WTF moment . bill since when is that economic development ...its the same old tax and spevd tired old approach which has been an epic failure .

Im not a republican ,but if i was it would be easy to support Finley . My only concern is these three support a sociopath for president .

Byrne seemed to have the only plan to repeal unsafe act

BYRNE has my vote!

Byrne seems like a nice guy , but very low energy and frankly his answers were inane about bringing in new business and splitting the state onthe Safe act .. Campaign level bs , not achievable in the real world . He seems drifty , not sharp at all to me .
