Watertown's Former Five-Term Mayor Offers His Take on Life in the North Country and Beyond
The experts would make good democrats because they are such good liars. They call them "calming zones". Fewer people will drive 55mph when the lanes narrow like that. Sure it is easier at to cross at traffic hour when you have a safe island at the half way point. But obviously it wasn't necessary as they never had people get hit by cars there before and that was with no sidewalks. This is just another example of your side of town not mattering. You have SO MANY CARS on that road that you need a crossing island, yet not enough to make it worth the cost to maintain traffic during the three years of construction.
After seeing another story about someone whining about the Factory Street reconstruction, I had to take a drive down there myself and see what all this fussing was about. I think it is going to look amazing! There is a lot more green space and I assume trees and such will be planted. When they put the island on State Street at Great American, people whined and now you barely notice it.Factory Street was a forgotten industrial road, not a street. I have found it a shame as it is one of the main streets leading in and out of downtown and Watertown as a whole, not to mention it runs along the Black River. Now it has the potential to be beautiful and inviting, something that has been sorely missing. The contractors can go ahead and take another two years as far as I am concerned because a wasteland is about to become a wonderland.
10:52, Your a fool. The plows definitely notice the island on State Street. The people crossing the road don't use it so it is true they don't notice it.Glad you think Factory is going to be beautiful. But first and foremost, its supposed to be a street. Hence the name, Factory STREEEET. Streets are supposed to accommodate vehicle traffic and service the properties located on that STREEEET. No one ever asked for an island. The pedestrians will be happy just to have sidewalks they can walk on. If you want some green space then that is what the margin between the curb and sidewalks is for.
We need more green space areas around the city , Flowers , trees and shrubs will polish the ugly areas around the city.
6;57 and 9 pm, you are the reason Watertown has such a hard time dragging itself into the 21st century. No plan is perfect but leave it up to negative people like yourselves to point out the imperfections rather then see the good that is happening. If the owner of Mo's is all good with the island, who are you to tell us it is bad. I know plenty of guys who plow, my brother included, and islands in the middle of streets are a bit of an issue but once the driver knows where they are, it is really not the big a deal as long as there is still clearance for the base of the plow.Oh, and by the way, I drive down State Street a least once a day and sometimes multiple times. Pedestrians DO use the island, maybe you should get out more.
7:43, you are personally responsible for Watertown sucking so much. You are unwilling to strive for perfection and so your type ensures we never get anything even close to perfection. You are not only accustomed to settling for inferior outcomes, you prefer the inferior outcome, make excuses for it and facilitate it. You attempt to shame, criticize and silence all of us who are accustomed to higher standards, better outcomes and competence from designers, decision makers, contractors or anyone else. You are a very special snowflake, have a cupcake, you deserve it.
The crows need more trees!
