WDT: One Downtown Project to Start While Other Under Cloud

Downtown buildings will get nearly $20M in rehabilitation as a result of  funding received this month by Neighbors of Watertown. The work includes a sprucing up of the former Empsall's store and the Brighton Apartment overhead.
One has to wonder about the future of another downtown project in the pipeline and that is the Mercy Heights development. Now that the top people at COR are charged with bribery and the state's economic development efforts are more suspect, it's an open question whether this effort proceeds.
If not, the roughly $70M project will wither.

Let the Mercy project wither and die, we do not need it. Put a city park there with a walking trail .

It would seem you are the only one who expected the Mercy gambit to come to fruition, Mr. Mayor.

This reminds me that I keep reading for a smoking fun in those COR charges and I don't see any difference than what is going on right here locally. I don't think it is unusual to ask somone with influence to help get a job or a raise for your kid.

Well look at it this way 6:39, at least we have a 10,000,000.00 arena that no one is using. Something from the previous admin. will develop at some point. That's why we paid for a CM with absolutely no previous experience in running a municipality. Fun times!

You are right when you state that we have a rigged and unfair system here too. In the city people get jobs and promotions based on croneyism and not qualifications. I recently heard that a department heads husband got a job that had already been promised to a current city employee. He got the job without ever applying and was not ever interviewed; just hired. This is how the city does things. Corrupt? I think this is pretty similar to how we got out CM with no experience and making $130,000 a year. The list goes on and on.
