New Law Will Likely Pass in a Town Where Few Know Amendments Other than the Second.

I had occasion to talk to a big time, influential supporter of this rental inspection concept who when he heard about only enforcing it against out of county people, just shook his head.  Another lawyer I talked to tonight said it's clearly an equal protection issue under the Fourteenth Amendment.
Now none ot fhat matters in a town where people acquiesce and don't have the inclination or resources to fight the man.....And The Man knows that.
Monday the City Council could approve the revised edition of the inspection law...It's been given the blessing of city counsel, so it will likely pass easily. Compliance will be an issue and maybe, someone will dispute it.
Either way the whole thing will not solve the stated rationale for the law.

Only landlords outside of JeffCo will be inspected now says Jennings

So, what's next? Um ... maybe: Religious Landlords of Select Religion?

The council has no balls , the law should apply equally across the board . ANything less is weakness and pandering to a few vocal locals . Screw them this law if enacted and enforced will better your city appearance and image .There will always be complainers like those pissingand moaning at the hearing ....toughnoogies !! Pass the law as originally intended .

9:07, you are correct that the council is stock full of cowards and commies. But not because they want to selectively enforce the stupid law, but rather because the new vote Jennings got is a pandering puppet vote cast by a woman who is simply doing what WDT's DANC and Neighbors tells her to do. Sad that she abandons her ethics this late in her career.

i for one appreciate the effort by this new council to better the community. i may not agree with everything they are doing but going in i think most of us new it would take time to undo a lot of the damage that has been done here by inactivity or plain stupidity, i.e. city manager, etc... keep up the efforts mr. butler, unlike on a few online blogs and chatrooms, most of us are behind ya.

12:17, you got it right the first time, "[you] for one".
Unless of course, by "most of us" you mean the WDT's DANC and Neighbor's of Watertown and yourself.

Seems odd that Jennings and perrykos would print the story with the names of those who will supposedly vote for the law. What is the deal with that pose Jennings is striking for the paper? Auditioning for a Madonna video?

Some dolt made a comment on the WDT's site stating that laws treating absentee landlord differently are routine. Then to back up his erroneous statement, he included a link to laws requiring any and all property management companies to register, but nothing requiring the absentee landlord to register.

Any who...the fact that two protected classes will likely to be the majority of absentee landlords, is going to be an issue for any law guy willing to be honest about the matter. Military personnel and old retired people spending their winters in Florida, are going to be disproportionately hit by this proposed useless law. Passing laws that disproportionally hurt two protected classes is a no-no.
