Friday

The credit union on Factory Street is reopening on Monday and pavement is getting down on Factory Street....Slowly the project is nearing completion....or at least close enough for local businesses to survive.
Monday, Council will discuss (finally) the Lachenauer Plaza Fountain.....It's been sitting on Marble Street for months while lawmakers dithered through the summer on what to do with the plaza.
The fountain was damaged when a motorist slammed into it and Mayor Butler instructed staff not to fix it till a decision was made on putting something else there.
Club 9 opened tonight and it looks great...Big dance crowd expected.

So mayor butler should not have instructed staff not to fix it? Isn't that going to take a crapload of dollars?Did you want him to give it a twenty one gun salute until they decide what to do?Sounds like someone will be running for mayor, yet one time, good lord give it a rest along with the mimosas.

Does the city charter give the mayor more majority than the rest of the council to allow him to give direct orders to staff?

Seems like if the city had competent staff, they would have partially fixed the fountain within a few weeks and then fixed the brick portion as soon as spring hit. Seems like any other action (or non action) should have required a resolution and vote by the council.

Now its taken a year and we still have to look at the stupid blight. I wonder if the mayor will apply his same braincell to sweeping the city streets? His logic being: direct staff to start sweeping streets only every other year, since the streets will just get dirty again this winter.

I notice that they are adding five layers of pavement in front of the credit union instead of putting one base coat on the entire street first. That is one more example of the lackadaisical attitude when it comes to reasonably minimizing inconvenience to the north siders.

All this makes me wonder if DPW Super Hayes has lost his fastball? Seems to me that he should have been on point for the factory st project & also reaffixing the water fountain. The latter of which could have been done in a week...
