The upcoming Russell-Byrne race will be a clean two way battle. No stranded or non viable candidates.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out. The best shot at Ms. Russell was two years ago, but the right campaign can defeat her....It really comes down to what she does...
There will be private polls and that will drive strategy. Whether to play safe or go nuclear.
The district is going Trump and that helps John Byrne. But the Russell campaign is locked and loaded (they might not like the analogy) with opposition research.
I think its more a question of whether Republicans want the seat enough to support their candidate with money and organization.
And I think the incumbent might want to have a good answer for the NYC allegiance issue that candidate Sheridan raised, as that will be the central attack against her. It's also the issue that will drive voters, more than attacking the foibles of one candidate.
It's the only real race locally, so let's enjoy the battle.
