The roughly four hundred absentees in this week's Republican Assembly primary will determine the winner. William Sheridan led John Byrne by seven votes on Tuesday night.
The absentees voted over the weeks before the primary and may not follow the pattern from Tuesday. Two years ago general election night numbers were percentage wise disfferent from the makeup of the absentees that carried Addie Russell to reelection.
Also, it may depend on which candidate had a plan to cultivate absentees, including outreach and efforts to get friends to lock in a vote if you suspect they won't make it out on primary day.
It's clear few were aware of or interested in this race. Turnout barely topped one in ten Republicans.
