Wednesday

Looks like there might be a nurses strike at SMC.....The hospital says all is well.....A man with a Factory Street business came up to me at McDonalds to tell me how two tenant businesses have already bailed due to the long dragged out reconstruction project.
Of course, those responsible still get paid and after all small business can afford it , right ?
The heat wave gets underway again today with a pair of eights on Saturday.

Gene Hayes needs to step in there and take this thing over! It is absolutely ridiculous that there is no work being done at night! They don't even put anything down on the road to limit the dust!!! This outfit has no idea what the hell they are doing. Get the city boys in there 24/7 and get this thing done before the snow flies!!! No more next spring talk!!! Get it done NOW!

The city manager is ultimately responsible for all city projects. Why in the world is she not being held to account for this disaster? This has become Watertown's version of "THE BIG DIG".

Samaritan pays its head figurehead over a million dollars a year. Not even a school superintendent comes close that level of public screwing. Then again Samaritan probably won't name the hospital after the head thief. But all that money, then they have their nurses running around trying to keep up. And the ratio of nurses to patients was published by the administration. They left out the nurse to patient ratio at the nursing home. Gee, I wonder why. People would like to know. For a million dollars a year you ought be held to a higher standard.

Someone needs to be held accountable for this mess. A head needs to roll at city hall. Not sure who but somebody is responsible whether its the manager, engineer or whoever. It is ridiculous. Just goes to show what low bid gets you. Arenas with missing beams, millions over budget, still cant make ice. Now this fiasco. Something needs to change in this city quick, I have never seen such a death spiral as I have in the past 2 years.

I thought the project wasn't supposed to be done until the fall of this year. So why all the kerfuffle now? I wasn't expecting it to be completed until around Thanksgiving time. Am i missing something?

No big fuss when all the State St businesses endured this a few years ago, it was worse and lasted two years.

5:29 you are ABSOLUTELY right. The city is the same falter. Look what the CM makes and then look at what she has done with employees. Ratios are good in one spot, but not in another and the lesser is made to give up and pay for the loss of the city. Where is this right. The only difference is SMC is not listening to a high priced lawyer who is taking most of the money for himself and only leaving the hospital in a mess. If Mr. Sliger is a new employee, where is this money coming from.. Again, the demotions of the fire department are far more personal than the money saved with the lawyer and now Mr. Sligar. thought the city was hurting for money. Sure doesn't look like it. The council and Mr. Money Man need to get a handle on her spending and see how bad things really are.

8:34,9:04 Yes, you are missing something. One would assume that this project would be completed in the same manner as State and Coffeen were completed. In those projects, traffic flow was maintained and they did nowt work bankers hours.

In stark contrast, for the Factory street project, which is a much smaller project than either of the other two mentioned, they are working very short hours and few days, with small crew and small amounts of equipment. Since this is the only street project of the three mentioned, that has actually shut down the traffic and at best allows it in one direction, these short working hours really stand out as being idiotically unreasonable.

Mr. Sligar will clean house of the fire queens just as he did at the water department.Kudos to Mike! Say bye bye Herman, Demar, and the rest of you slackers.
