WDT: Rally to support Watertown firefighters again postponed

The rally for the FD is delayed again....No urgency, I guess....It will be in September...better time anyway...Everyone this month is soaking up the end of summer.
Not sure what there is to rally for. The public doesn't seem that worked up by the long meandering labor talks or whether there's lots of captains.
    Everybody has their own problems.

Your firefighter union is phony from the word go. You must be glad your not dealing with them. They wanted to make a public statement but no one is listening. Your city council is on the right track.. Why the rally? Taxpayers all over this nation are looking for a break and when elected officals do their job those breaks can be gotten. If these guys are ready to make concessions in pension and pay, overtime or any othe the above I would believe they have a point but they are not and they dont.. To offer 12 hour shifts to get more time off is the killer that tells me they dont need as much manpower.

6:45 your idiosyncrasy is right on tract. The 12 hour shifts were to save the city money too as they showed them. As for the rally, it seems its not off the radar because this rally is totally set up by a nice lady from the city taxpayers and has nothing to do with the union.
Thanks to her, there is some appreciation shown to a great bunch of guys..
No thanks to anyone like you!!

Lack of interest? That is possible, but more likely it's a matter of not fully tuned to the heart of the issue, which is anti-Union and Labor that runs deep around here. Why is that? Beyond me, but jealously does come to mine. Let's be clear: Labor Unions have served our country and workers well for many decades ... The local attacks on them is very disheartening to say the least. — Dan Francis

By public not worked up, you must be talking about your croneys from city hall. The general taxpaying public such as myself is very unhappy with the way the city is handling this deal. Maybe you need to talk to people outside your negative labor hating circle. You are right, everybody does have their own problems, mostly caused by poor management in this city, it is embarassing

Danny, why are you anti-taxpayer? Jealousy comes to mind. Don't be jealous, you could be a taxpayer if you wanted to be.

As always, your perception is devoid of reality. Its not anti-union to want to reign in the bloated fire department.

The fire queens are paid handsomely. They have a due process in place to ensure they are treated fairly and not abused by management. They have every conceivable safety policy. They have everything a union needs and more.

But most of what they have is redundant because of civil service law and OSHA, so the union is not really needed, other than to get their handsome raises every year.

Since the union doesn't have to worry about the basics, instead they set their sights on keeping too many people on shift, with too many managers on shift and responding to too many calls. They push for inspections and OT and all the other wasteful spending that we cannot afford.

Meanwhile, the laws are written unfairly against the taxpayers and instead are pro union. When this unfairness is pointed out to you, you shrug your shoulders and say if we don't like it we should elect a new Albany. You know damn well we can't elect a new Albany. THAT flippant attitude of yours is nothing but anti-taxpayer.

8:32 am ; well said my friend.

8:32. You are grossly misinformed and really should get an education in matters you are speaking about, like all your comments

I am confused about the negativity shown towards WFD. I seem to notice multiple police agencies show up for DWI's, MVA's etc. which cost us many tax dollars and no comments on this subject. Care to chime in 8:32 or 2:57?

Me suspects support for union si waning .........

Ironically, taxpayers will be receiving school taxes next week. Wonder how THAT will impact attendance?

11:55, we're sick of a lot of that too! Do ambulances go out and patrol for sick people? Then why do we need cops blocking our streets and harassing people for every little infraction? If we need to police, we'll call them! And don't get me started on all their little "toys". Snow mobiles, boats, tanks etc. You go out on the lake today and you're almost guaranteed to get harassed by some government thug. Either the coast guard, troopers, sheriffs, boarder patrol, state park police, dec etc. As if there's some epidemic on our waters that require spending millions of dollars a year harassing us...

11:55pm, I will say, of all the different large cities, I have stayed/visited, I never seem to hear so many sirens/horns, as I do here in the small city of Watertown. It makes you wonder if there is anyone left alive, or why there are buildings standing. Good for you, pointing that out.
