WDT: No One Beating Down Doors for Naming Rights

An informational meeting for those interested in putting their name on the Fairgrounds Arena attracted no one, although the deadline for bids is September 30.
For the time being, how about Watertown Arena......Makes sense because it is an arena and it is in Watertown.
City Council has written itself out of the process as the RFP gives the CM approval power over the name chosen.
I wonder if the Thompson Park Pool will go through the same process ?

Did you notice that the ass kissing MSN, including WDT's, repeatedly refereed to the Quicken Loans Arena by name?

Just another example of inadequate leadership.

Why is the city manager not being held responsible for the factory street fiasco? Engineering & planning aside, she is as she claims, the BOSS. So the buck stops with her, right?

well 12:25, the only time she leaves her office is to beat feet out of town. that could be the problem...

11 MILLION dollars later. Still a disaster!

No offense, but the place looks like a warehouse. Why would any company want to associate its name with that? Contrast it with the arena in Binghamton, which looks like a major city venue. Even Utica's Aud has the draw of bright lights, big city. Maybe the city should start thinking about catchy nicknames to attract interest--and visitors. The 'Shed'? 'Self-Storage Arena'? The 'Salt Barn'?

I agree with 2:25.
How would Ms. Addison know what people of this city are going through?
She doesn't live here. Out of sight out of mind. Every thing is fine on the third floor.

Typical stupidity on the part of the city. Why do most companies have a marketing and sales team? Because companies are not dumb enough to rely on the newspaper legal notices to market their product. If you want to sell the naming rights you need a salesperson to sell them. You need someone to knock on doors, make phone calls and pitch the idea. You need to identify the potential buyers, show them the value and sell it to them.

815 agreed pay that person 100,000

The city is dumb, leaders are incompetent, hate the weather, my job and my neighbors. That's it, I'm leaving and spreading my sunshine elsewhere.

Geez, get a grip people. If you don't like the way the city is run move it run for office. All of the whining doesn't improve things. Get out and make a difference in your community.

Addison Arena - she can use the money she "saved" by demoting WFD Captains to buy her own naming rights and then hang a huge neon sign since she light the spotlight so much?

No can do, not legal some will say. Maybe demoting those Captains to "save" money in the end will prove to have been illegal, too. We shall see, so stay tuned.

A total disaster from the start. Just imagine how different things may have gone if the facility were build brand new and downtown. Bet we would have gotten that $10,000,000 grant for downtown development too. The city has a real tendency not to view the big picture. Downtown could have been given a new lease on life if we actually had a downtown destination. INCOMPETENCE once again.

9:51, don't be a retard. People sell homes and many other things every day and they don't hire someone for $100,000 to do it. Usually, they contact a professional and pay a percentage commission. But on big deals like these they would work a flat commission, or a cost-plus a low low low percentage.

typical idiot response from 4.58. aka Mr. expert. shut your piehole

I always enjoy the smell from the waste water treatment plant plant when watching my children play sports. Asked Sligar why no odor reducing agents were not used. His reply was I did not know what I was talking about. I handed him a brochure from my employer SLACK and he cussed me out about Bob Sturtz knows nothing.

Shame on the past council for spending 13 million dollars of tax payer money on that arena makeover that is still running in the RED at a loss of over a half a million a year.

4:48 stop insulting the underprivileged and those who may be very close to some of us. The use of "retard" is jargon and very disrespectful and I'm also surprised Jeff has that post even on the web. Some should really be tailored and rejected for bully responses and i know the first amendment, but if it offends someone, I think professionalism should trump the post and be deleted. Also, giving the CM the power to approve the naming rights... why is she allowed to be such a micro manager? We elect the council and they represent us, and as their constituents, they should represent us in the naming of our money hole. Not the outsider. Plus the vote would make it more meaningful and legal and equal.
