WDT: Local broadband providers awarded New NY Broadband Program funds

Free, free, free...That mattress huckster is right......I read this month a friend of mine got a free quarter million and then I read some Tinker Toy phone company up north gets over three million to update its broadband so people living in the middle of nowhere can play Pokémon Go.
I'll never make fun of the EBT crowd buying subs at the convenience store again. The corporate welfare folks do it right, and get good PR in the process.

I think the 50 bucks a month we pay for basic broadband should cover running a few cable lines and installing a few switches. Internet access shouldn't cost more than a few bucks a month.
They do the same thing giving OUR money to the utility companies to upgrade their "infrastructure". As if the hundreds of dollars a month each of us pays just goes to corporate profits. Not to mention the thousands of dollars a month many businesses pay.

Don't Y'all remember the big hullabalou a couple of years ago going on at the Federal Communications Commission (or whatever they call themselves) about the Feds desire to force the internet industry to provide high speed service to every corner of the country, no matter how much it cost and how unprofitable it might be? What you are talking about is the end result of these decisions and has nothing to do with corporate greed or financial shenanigans. The government HAS to supply the money because there is no way these small markets can support the cost of this without the subsidies. The public comments were in favor of "free stuff" internet and we got just what we asked for. (and are going to have to pay for)Obummer-Care for the internet folks. You wanted it. Now we got it.

When a business gets money from the govenrment, it is payment for actually DOING SOMETHING. You may disagree with what that something is, but it is payment for performance nonetheless. Welfare and Obamaphones are a completely different animal, where the recipient is paid NOT TO DO ANYTHING, (unless you count popping out fatherless chil'ren).

Only an idiot or a liar would call it corporate "welfare".
