WDT: Council Surprised at Sligar Hiring

The Times reports Council members were surprised at the rehiring of former water czar Michael Sligar as a consultant to draw up staffing protocols for the Fire Department.
I don't know why it was a surprise. I had heard about it a while back and I don't have any particular insight into all this.
A good sense of deja vu helps provide insight.

That's a little bit of a spin on the story Jeff. The article says they were surprised at Sligars depth of involvement with the fire department in the rehiring, not that they were surprised he was rehired.

Makes one wonder how much the council is actually being told regarding negotiations and alot of other issues taking place in this city. Just another example of Ms Addisons incompetence.
Sounds to me like it was a setup deal with Ms confused Macaluso hearing about it in June and Sligars sudden retirement in July. Just more pension padding and good ole boy networking going on.
What could he possibly bring to the table with no experience? And $50/hr? Come on, this is such a farce. Its time for the council to put their foot down with this woman.

How can this possibly be legal? I am asking you, Jeff, is this legal for her to just hire a "crony," pay him whatever she wants and not to have to even account for this allocation of public funds? I thought that it was council's job to appropriate public funds.

If she is allowed to get away with this, what next? What would stop her from paying $400 an hour, hiring family members, rewarding advocates of hers, hiring her buddies and giving them high paying consulting gigs etc... isn't this the very essence of corruption? I heard this week that Ms. Addison bypassed the normal hiring and bid procedures to hire the husband of one of her friends (Over a more qualified internal candidate). This is not the first time something like this has happened. Who is minding store over there on Washington Street? This is our money not hers. Why all the secrecy? Looks inappropriate to me.

Do you think ti adds to the paper's steady decline when the WDT's purposely crafts such misleading headlines? No one was "surprised".

LOL LOL - another joke of the century entry ... may top them all.

About this whole affair, well... told ya' so ... CM running wild in over her head as she pulls a Gomer Pyle and council falls for it * sort of ...

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise.

Five duly elected office overseeing a novice in over her head and they are surprised ... I'm not.

Danny thinks whenever a strong intelligent woman makes decisions, she is "in over her head". No Dan, she is doing just what needs to be done. Its not as easy to do in Watertown as it is in Oswego, but she is getting it done nonetheless. You and the fire union can continue to defend the indefensible and fight this common sense right-sizing of the fire department, but in the end you lose.

Why all the secrecy? Have we forgotten where she came from, the CIA?Why do we need a government spook running our city, there were really no public administration graduates that were liable candidates? And here we go,everything is a secret, and a surprise.Nonsense.

8:20 - actually Ms. Addison came from the NSA - not much diff between the two, however... she is in over her head .. end of story despite the BS otherwise.

I'm not so sure CM Addison is as intelligent as advertised.

I have nothing against strong women .. just ask my wife.

Wonder where fountainless joe stands on this sligar situation? perhaps he could decree that orange fencing be placed around manager Addison, just to reign her in a bit.
