An interesting campaign event yesterday, as networks reported the father of the Orlando nightclug shooter was one of the people chosen to be in the background crowd behind Hillary Clinton as she spoke at a Sunshine State rally on Tuesday. The guy later spoke out in support of the Clinton candidacy.
First, you have to be screened and picked to be part of the background crowd. While this may not have been intended, it shows a sloppiness in the campaign and an insensitivity to the shooting victims and their families. Seddique Mateen was outspoken after his son slaughtered 49 and his decision to be so public in supporting Mrs. Clinton is interesting and odd, although the incident won't hurt her as the media is apoplectic over what the say was a threat of violence by Donald Trump.
One further note. While the support of Mr. Mateen was likely not sought, there needs to be an immediate and full throated disavowal of him by Mrs. Clinton.
