Rally Postponed...No Word on Contract

A planned rally in support of the Fire Department has been postponed till August 27...Next Saturday.
Meanwhile, the matter of a labor contract and the demotion of eight fire captains has pretty much fallen off the public's radar. The last labor contract expired in 2014.
There continue to be occasional commenters who say retired water czar Mike Sligar has some new role in managing the Fire Department. I haven't read anything about it, but if you have any facts , feel free to elaborate.

You heard right. Apparently, a source within the department tells me that Sligar has been brought back out of retirement to act as a "special consultant" to the Fire Chief. This assignment will no doubt come with a hefty paycheck courtesy of the taxpayers who are already footing the bill for his retirement and post employment benefits. Yet more wasted money.

When is this craziness going to stop? This looks like a vote of No Confidence in fire administration to me. Interestingly, Sligar knows nothing about fire protection and really has no real solutions to bring to the table. He is there solely to help the city build a more defendable case when this whole issue reaches the courts.

As a taxpayer, I am outraged at the way our money is being wasted over there. Sligar is there to bully the Fire Chief and act as muscle for the third floor that does not have the integrity to do their own dirty work.
Absolutely disgusting!!!!!!

7:42, It is more likely that as a union fire employee you are outraged, than "as a tax payer".

Is this true? Can the city hire someone off the budget, without it being public knowledge or voted on in open council session? If I was a reporter I would be asking questions, because if it is the true, then why is the public not being informed.Any money paid to a "consultant" is our tax money and we should know about it!

When you promote a union member and lover to the top position, its almost impossible to get them to start working for the tax payers instead of his former union brothers.

For your information 830 I am a CITY RESIDENT and City taxpayer, are you?. To contend that simply because I am getting sick of this administration wasting my money that I must have a self-interest is not only wrong but insulting. I do not profit from this one bit, I do however pay the bill for these games. Maybe if you paid taxes to the city you would feel differently. Time for us taxpayers to start asking some serious questions about where all of this money is supposed to come from.

7:42 - You are spot on and I totally agree ...

Hey, bring me out of retirement and appointed to oversee the City Manager's office for the taxpayers since City Council is doing a lousy job while letting her run rampant ... um?

Let us look at Sligar's legacy with the water department. He fired Gaffney and has that resulted in improved water quality or less money spent on budget. I will help you as the answer it is no. He did spend money on cameras to watch employees along with monitors to collect data. This was already availble from the plant. He has a fetus of watching Adrimal Harvil Peabody and his crew who admitted to peeing in the water supply. Watch out firemen with your hoses.

Mr. Sligar got rid of the dead weight like Gaffney and will do so at WFD. HAHA!

Fired Gaffney who BTW was correct in his assessment to not contaminate the water. He was fired for doing this job and telling his boss he'd do it again under the same circumstances ... that got him fired - for being correct but not a diplomat about it.

NYS health department also agreed with his judgment.

Danny boy how in hell would you know what the NYS DOH said. Please stop the lying it only makes you a fool!

Last June, Mr. Ordway insisted his client (Mr. Gaffney) who had been a city employee for more than 26 years, did the right thing. In court papers, Mr. Ordway pointed out that the Health Department agreed the gate should be reopened.

NYS Health Department employee Michael Tracy testified in the June 18 hearing that it was not an emergency situation — as Mr. Gaffney had claimed April 16 — regarding the river’s water levels that April day.

2:40, Take that. Mr. Francis has been around and paid close attention to the lousy leadership on the third floor.
And as for a Taxpayer being called a union member, maybe that is so, and if it is, so what.. Being a taxpayer is still a taxpayer no matter what job you hold. You can still give information and common sense.. out of your caliber though, right??

7:55 I would add to your comment that the dam was projected to breach at midnight and Mr. Gaffney was being proactive. Do people in hurricanes, floods and other disasters wait until the event is occurring to respond? Mr. Gaffney got screwed as will the WFD when Sligar and Addison are through. Side note Mr. Gaffney is employeed by NYS as is Mr. Augustus. Both are said to be very happy with their new employers.

10:52, I pay more city taxes in a year than you pay in a lifetime.
There is nothing wrong with a "self interest". That is exactly what the taxpayers have. But you have a "party first" and "union first" interest.

10:41, you wouldn't know leadership if it was dictated to you from a person with no leadership skills aside from the threat of a Court-martial (as is the case with all military "leaders".

On the other hand, this brilliant woman who leads our city, shows exemplary leadership skills. Rather than putting herself in the media everyday touting her agenda, like her predecessors did, she actually gains support from council and her underlings. she actually has a vision and is carrying it out. That is what true leadership is.

If you don't like it, you should just move out of the city. Because the rest of the taxpayers and voters love it. "Fight the fire...union"!!!

WE should all be thanking Mr. Francis for getting his facts before he opens his mouth. Like it or not, he is seldom wrong on these kind of things. He does pay attention and is not afraid to tell it like it is. He has correctly identified the problems and the lack of leadership that exists currently within our city administration. Keep it up Mr. Francis, someone needs to question the powers that be. They are simply too arrogant to exercise and type of personal restraint. Stupid people BEWARE!

751 you are so full of yourself. Wake up you idiot. Ms. Addision is no Mary Corriveau I can assure you of that. As for a vision, what is it? To run the city into the ground, get us into debt, and alienate our workers? If this is the goal then I agree she is doing an outstanding job of screwing the taxpayer.
