HOTLINE: Commentary on Sligar Hire

I thought I gave a pretty good commentary on the Sligar hiring today.....Roll it out and explain what you are doing and why you are doing it...Relying on the public and media not paying attention is not a strategy...And this is not a routine hiring decision...It's a strategy...A means to an end and that needs to be rationalized.

I haven't listened to it yet. But it makes no sense for the city to show their hand in the middle of the poker game, because then their adversary sees the hand. I know you and Perry love the open government prime directive...until you don't...but some things need to be allowed to play out before we can know about them. We have been told enough. The guy is going to help write the SOP. What else do you need to know?

Besides...the only people talking about this are the fire union employees and a busybody union-advocacy media.

You certainly are much bolder and seem to be full of ideas then you were when in office. It's a shame about that. Just goes to show that politics weighs mightily on what the right thing to do is.

Typical Walzyck on chan 7 playing both sides. He thinks sligar brings a lot to the table in leadership. sounds like he is bringing two pensions to the table to me. plus the Addison stipend. how many assistants does this woman need to help do her job anyway?

I think the pressure might be getting to Madam Manager. Heard from a friend who works there that She has had a medusa effect on the people in the building. They all try to avoid her and nobody wants to look her in the eye.

I wonder why our new HR Director didn't help handle this. We might as well get something for that extra $16,000.

What a fiasco. Like i said before, where has she been over the past few weeks? Not giving any information or being in the public as the MANAGER should be as she knows what is going on. She is a disgrace and she knows she is doing wrong and leaving a poor legacy for Sharron Addison in Watertown. She will be leaving with the Attorney from NYC as he has no ties either. Too bad, she has to kill morale and the public protection in the meantime. There has been no savings to her plan. Move inspections out, building visits out, fire education out, demotion of 8 efficient guys for nothing to save, bring in "more people on the top" as she wants to eliminate them, goof on the Arena but all is ok, because her drinking partner wanted something new. When will it all stop. We as the public taxpayer and constituent as Macaluso says, need to speak out.. What will happen then?

Seems I have been just about the only voice zeroing in on the CM and her awful nasty tactics.. I hate to say so (and no, not bragging), but I have been on message all along on this messy issue. She has to go and so do some council members ... delay is not constructive in this awful case ... and thumbs up council asses is not sound policy.

So we have a city manager,a local law firm,a nyc law firm, and now sligar to attempt this circumvention of state labor laws?I sure hope it works,or someone(s) shall have some egg on their face..though what does it really matter,as Hillary would say,the taxpayer will pay for it all in the end anyhow.

923 and 1124 spot on!!!! We are sitting and watching a train wreck here in the COW.

This unqualified administration is running the place right into the ground and the Mayor and Council are allowing it. We elect these people to do what is in our best interest not to play games, be nasty and waste our money.

What have we gotten? Legal fees 4X what they were under the previous administration, law suits, unfair labor practices, arbitration, no public fire education for children, no building inspections, poor employee morale, deteriorating infrastructure, administrative expansion (some backdoor) , embarrassment, national ridicule, more debt, less fund balance, lost opportunities, and no future. Yeah, great job 3rd floor.

The city manager needs to know that we the tax payers are 100% behind her. the majority of city resident are 100% behind her and the rest of the residents are indifferent. If you see her or anyone on the council, offer them encouraging words. The vocal minority running their mouths against her are all fire union employees and a few far left democrats.

Cortland is down to a force of 31 plus a volunteer force of 31. Oswego just eliminated 16 with an eye toward getting to where Cortland is. Watertown needs to stick to their guns and right size the fire department.

The liars constantly refer to the study and lie saying it recommended no changes. But the fact is that it recommended adding volunteers and to quit responding to the wrong types of calls. The study said the force could be reduced after either of these two adjustments were made.

8:04, where are you pulling your data from? I assume you are either Steve Jennings or Sharron Addison, because you two live in your own delusional world where everyone thinks everything you do is so great. Well guess what.. the public is NOT 100% behind either of you. WE actually want you both gone. If the CM spent any time in the city (and less time on the river) she would hear the rumblings at the bank, grocery store, restaurants, etc. If Jennings were ever to be spotted outside of Johnson's office, he'd be booed into submission. These two have absolutely no regard for public opinion. And shame on anyone on council who goes to bat for these two. Jennings pedaled this rental registration crap in his run for mayor and LOST in the PRIMARY. No one wants it! When it comes to these two, the old saying goes: THROW THE BUMS OUT. Time. For. Change.

Who are you 804? Sharon or a relative? Unlike her, I actually live here and am in constant contact with other residence through civic groups, my church and at social functions. I talk to people and what they are saying to me is that they are not behind her even 1%. They are telling me that they are fed up with her tactics and reckless spending. Her personal life may also be an issue.

So don't try to tell me that that this is just firemen and democrats because it is not. We are citizens and tax payers and it is about time to send he and her cronies packing. I am keeping tabs, and will be sure to speak with my next votes. I plan on voting against ALL current representatives. I want new blood that will do what the taxpayers need and want. Period.

I listened to your comment.

1. You use the term "union busting". Wikipedia says:
Union busting is a pejorative term used by media, labor organizations, and others to describe a wide range of activities undertaken to disrupt or prevent the formation of trade unions.

No one is trying t disrupt or or prevent the formation of a union. What they are trying to do is stop the unions from mandating a bloated fire department that responds to to many calls with too many people and is never allowed to be down in a single man.

2. There is no reason for the city to make anything more public about this because the public doesn't care. The only ones who care are the fire union employees, the media who advocates for them and a few local left wing crackpots who are on the wrong side of every issue and never agree with the public at large on any issue.

3. the media trying to make an issue of the wage being paid, doesn't bat an eye when Cuomo mandates $40 an hour for basic labor on low income housing. they don't care how much more the lowest paid person is being paid for the Factory street saga. They don't care how much people will be paid for building Western Boulevard. They suddenly seem to care about pay rates when a high level talented manger is being brought in to help the fire chief complete a one time task. But no one else cares.

7:16, you are right on point!

8:04, as a taxpayer in this city for 52 years you absolutely WRONG! The taxpayers are very unhappy with what is being done and all the other antics of this manager and council. I am not just talking for myself, but my neighbors up and down the street, friends, business owners, etc. My guess is you do not even live in this city or if you do you have a uneducated agenda. I live here because I want fire, police, trash pickup, streets plowed etc. If I wanted volunteer protection that may or may not show up, police that may or may not be at my house within the hour, roads that might get plowed once a day I would live in Antwerp or someplace. I am willing to pay more taxes for these services but am not willing to pay more taxes for lawyers, consultants, studies and botched projects.

10:18 - You are ABSOLUTELY correct. My neighbors feel the same and it is all you hear no matter where you go or what you are doing.. I just wish people would start attending the Council Meetings and show their distrust, frustration and fears of where the city is headed. It will take the tax payers standing up and impressing on the council just how much they oppose how the city is being run. If you can't attend a meeting pick up the phone and call the mayor and/or the council members. They SAY they want to hear from you. I think showing your displeasure by attending the meetings would make a big impact. A couple of hours out of your time twice a month might go a long way in getting your point across. If nothing else you will see for yourself how the CM and elected officials really operate.

11:45, it doesnt matter if you attend council meetings, call them or whatever, they do what they want. They have no interest in what the taxpayers want! This was very evident right from the arena to the fire department and every other issue. You try and vote them out like the last election and the new ones are just as bad. Guess we keep trying until we get some people in there that will stand up for what the taxpayers that actually live in this city want.
I have seen how they operate, and it is arrogance and corruption from the manager to the mayor and council. Something needs to change, now!

10:18 I could not agree less!
As a resident and taxpayer of this city I say that the costs of the fire dept are way out of control and I have nothing but praise for the current city leaders for tackling this issue and trying to reel in costs.
In case you have not noticed there is a steady stream of single family homeowners leaving the city. People are being taxed right out of their homes!
That you don't mind paying these excessive amounts in taxes tells me that you are either a fireman, other city employee or are lying about living inside the city limits.

Well, there you have it...
...Danny and two fire union employees all agree to shit can the manager.
The rest of us all support the city manager.

Anonymous said...

The only people that support this sad excuse for a city manager are the 3rd floor butt kissers she has taken care of, meanwhile the rest of the city is n shambles.

No you have it backwards, yourself and one other guy who live outside the city and were not smart enough to pass the civil service test and are now jealous that others do what you wish you could do constantly bitch about the fire department with no facts to back your statement.
The rest of us support the firemen and want the manager GONE!

6:39 is the CM's river buddy.

No, you two fire union employees and Danny, hate the city manager. Everyone else loves her. Your thermometer is broken and you have no idea what the true temperature of the public is.
They have to keep canceling the rally going because no one supports your BS.
Oswego had their public meeting and only one person spoke out against the cuts.
The people want cuts !!!

Well 9:39, we will see how much the voters love Ms. Addison in the next election. I know of one undeclared candidate as of yet, who intends to make the election a referendum on Ms. Addison and her lack luster performance as city manager. Who by the way, this council voted behind closed doors to re-up her contract. But those days are done, this much I can assure you.
