Another Swipe at Downtown....Let's Check Out the Response.

A tree adorning Court Street in front of the Brighton Building was damaged and likely destroyed by vandals. That's too bad, but is it really ? Just leave it like Lachenauer Plaza was.
Tree Destroyed

Mayor Giuliani talked about the "broken window syndrome" and the need to fix things like this pronto so not to send the message that broken is OK.

Meanwhile the toppled Lachenauer Fountain remains on its side on Marble Street.....It's such that I hear if you are searching for Pokémon at the former site of the fountain a photo of the toppled fountain shows up in which it is on the back of a truck in front of Converse Welding.

Ever since the downtown was converted to low-income and no-income apts what do you expect? maybe they were going to the playhouse at the Empsall Bldg. and they needed more to do, I thought the cops did foot patrol?

Joe never liked that fountain...time will tell what, he thought of that tree.

Our police can't change people, 10:34. I agree with your low/no income view. But there's little down there for people who actually work. Those dumbasses lieve elsewhere, and pay their own bills. Vote Democrat, create more takers, per se.

Tonight NBC coverage showed the Swiss beach volleyball ladies. The announcer proceeded to tell us, after viewing what we all looking for, that's "nice Swiss". Hmmm. Was cheese the connection he was driving at?

That fountain was beyond ugly, maybe beyond horrendous especially after the paint job. But I can understand your taste and its appeal to you with your eye toward esthetics.

11:38 PM, the police just need to do their job and it will certainly change peoples behavior. They have to go to the bar and look at the cameras to see what three people left the bar at the time of the incident. Then arrest them and put their mug shots on newzjunky so everyone knows what happens when you do things like that. Then the judge should make them pay for it.
BTW, is the city in the process of recovering the demolition costs of that bar on west main? I see the lot was sold to the guys brother but that shouldn't hamper things too much.

There is a councilman who lives overlooking the tree. Did he see anything ?

11:43, bums live very well here in DannyWorld. Just about everything is free. You want the police to change this? Who are they to get involved? This is what the voters want.

Today the cops were trying to compete with the fire queens for winning the most useless trophy. I saw two of them walking together on the square this morning. No doubt looking for rowdy church ladies speed walking home from mass.

Get ready for some more fountainless joe orange fencing.

Did it happen early in the am?? Because it if happened near 7 or so, you could find 5 or 6 of them along with 7 or 8 troopers and sheriffs dept. cars at Chappy's on the top of Coffeen St. Really???? Why do we need so many if they can all sit down for breakfast at the same time leaving our city unprotected..Maybe we can do without some of them and save some more money for the pool which is going to cost much more than what we are saving for something we use maybe 3 months if that. Great JOB again council.. I cant believe Macaluso isn't behind this stupid idea. As P&R Supt said, we have more pools than other cities our size now, so what do we do???? ADD another.. I know other studies which have cost us thousands of dollars to say one thing, and ANOTHER is chosen by the famous five. Thats Watertown!!!!

8:49,you seem to be the type that would complain no matter what they did,I suppose if they were right there and arrested them for smashing the tree you would be making fun of them for overreacting to a little harmless fun.Tell you what, why don't you take the test for fire or police, and try and go do the job.Or sit on your ass and take anonymous potshots on a keyboard, whatever is in your skillset.

I understand that Joe don't like dat fountain. But it is the city manager and department heads who are responsible for putting the fountain back.

If I was the department head, I would simply put a couple guys working on it for a day or two and it would be done. Insurance would not be a factor, just as it is not a factor when anything else breaks. Unless the city manager gave a directive not to fix it. The major is not the boss. If the council wanted to pas a resolution directing that the fountain will not be repaired, then they could do that.

A good media guy would directly ask the city manager and or department head, what the deal is. Is it his decision not to do his job or was it her decision to write city policy on this fountain? Or are either of them following illegal directives from the mayor?

Good news!! The tree has been replaced with another. Are you happy Jeff. It only took 36 hours. What will you cry about now?? After all, it was a weekend, and hardly an emergency situation. I suppose if you were mayor it would have been replaced immediately.

I am hoping the new water czar will at least put flowers in the wagon in front of the offices. It has sat there with weeds growing two feet high all summer. I guess the old czar wasn't into aesthetics but if you aren't going to put the flowers in it and WATER them, then pull the wagon out back and park it next to the fountain from the square. It it the little things that visitors to our city notices and this one just drives me bonkers.

Right you are 831 I always wondered that when I worked there, guess there's more important things to do. Oh well time to water the flowers now I'm retired.

We need the bed bug crap, zombie this plus that, and just the local no pride war to fall into the river. Flow away. Than we need a new WATERTOWN IS GREAT group formed to take some pride back! I know it seems to simple. But think about one week where someone would see POSSITIVE on the TV, the Paper, and the internet. Maybe someone would want to buy a house here, pay some taxes, and raise some kids. Not live in public everything, bitch all week, and not give much back. So sick of that. We sold this public living to ourselves, and kicked our own ass. We sold the NEGATIVE. Time to change it.
