Events are challenging both major party Presidential candidates as the start of the GOP Convention is now overshadowed by the outrageous ambush of seven police officers in Baton Rouge. Add to that international news like the Nice truck rage and the tumult in Turkey.
There is a real challenge for Donald Trump to temper remarks and not reflexively react on Twitter. Hillary Clinton will fall back on liberal bromides about all of us getting along and the need for racial justice.
Not everything requires immediate response or finger pointing. The RNC must craft a message to justify support for the change they are offering. Dovetailing that to events without pandering to momentary rage will be a challenge.
