WDT: IDA's Must Be Made To Answer To Elected County Officials

Over the years, Industrial Development Agencies have become detached from the control and accountability to elected officials/
Much of it is the fault of part time lawmakers who routinely cede authority to the unelected with big salaries.
The ability to tax (or not tax) is at the heart of the forming of our nation, and unelected and unaccountable boards are able to obviate taxes for who they choose.
The current spat that Perry writes about is over wind, but it goes on all the time with exemptions and these tax evading property swaps.

Who are you kidding? Its caused by Albany in conduction with a bunch of "if its free its for me" north country voters. Democrats traded their liberty and self governance for grant here and a grant there. Now we have an ugly monument in Thompson Park, that no one wanted or wants there, paid for with a pAddie Ritchie grant. all we had to give up was our freedom. Funny thing is that those who the monument is supposed to honor, would not support selling our freedom for ANY price.

And in this weeks council agenda there's a vote to make all the Apts that NOW has a hand in Tax-exempt, I also believe one of them is Sam-Keep apts for which the Donald has his hand in it, just because the elected body votes YES doesn't make it right, it means they were influanced by the wine and cheese crowd...

I think we should build a monument in Thompson Park to honor NOW and the IDA. That way we can honor all the same do-gooder govenrment teat suckers in one convenient spot.

Actually, while counties must exercise overall oversight, the IDA's that are effective are those put in the hands of business leaders and professionals vs. local politicians and their designated driends.
