Today's shooting at the Jefferson County Fair is an alarming event and that it was an apparent attempted suicide (life threatening in initial accounts although some reports are for the worse) doesn't diminish the question of this occurring on city property during a family event.
Rumor is it stemmed from a boyfriend/girlfriend dispute. All of that's tragic for sure, but it begs the question of firearms on the Fairgrounds and whether they are legal.
Normally suicides get little news coverage because no one wants to pile on when it's such a personal tragedy..
Many fair workers come from states with different gun laws, but ironically the NY gun law awareness group SCOPE was not welcome at the Fair as it was felt the topic is too controversial.
