Water Czar to Make $88,000

Monday the City Council will pass a resolution to pay the new Water Superintendent $88,000. The matter of a successor to Michael Sligar has been on the down low, but some three weeks ago a source said the person is Pyrites resident Vickie Murphy who had been working for the City of Auburn and then briefly for the Development Authority.  Sources say Ms. Murphy had resigned from DANC to take the city job although city officials haven't announced anything beyond the resolution to set a salary.

I remember when new hires were paid below the current dept head with incentive pay as an award. Glad I moved!

Will she have to live in the City? .........

Does she have an engineering degree? If not, what degree does she hold? Also, can you tell me if you need a HS diploma to be a firefighter or a GED or can you just take the test?

Revolving door?

All these efforts bending over backwards to hire a woman, but still no black supervisors in the city.

F/U post: What was her pay in Auburn and then at DANC, I wonder? Apparently the "golden goose" for big bucks is Watertown City government ... yippee.... We are #1. (A bit cynical, but for good reason). Now watch the blowback towards me. Still the critics take that practice in stride while blasting critics like me - why? Oh, yeah, hypocrites themselves. Never mind.

Danny's eureka moment...as he finally caught on...that we pay our fire department too much.

Sligar fired Gaffney so he could not apply and show the COW what an idiot Sligar was. He was the only COW employee qualified for the job. He also was not afraid of any management or being fired.

1:39 Right on again with your ignorance.. nothing to do with the issue, but yes, your right again in your own little world.. look at the police department and see what they are paid.. more than the fire department. And their total budget is less than 1 million than the fire department and their equipment is much less... now is it really about money or retaliation by city hall?
I think the latter is right. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to see this.. but wait for the next election. I bet many of those in office do NOT run, because they know they are off the team from ever getting re-elected. Watch and see..

WOW!!!! How does this compare to other that have held the position? I suspect that SHE is higher paid than those before her. Looks a lot like a trend to me. I guess this is what it takes to recruit people into this mess. Plenty of bitching about what firemen make but no real opposition to the continued recruitment of high paid outsiders. Lets see how long this one lasts.

More Freedom! More Chlorine! Good god!

LOL. 933 is spot on. Looks more like a sorority than a management team. I guess that someone must be afraid to go head to head with male department heads. Thank god the voters are paying attention and still electing men.

Keep hiring a narrow demographic of yes people and see what you get.... Problems .... Problems .... Problems ...... Time for the CM and her band of overpaid and under-qualified "girl-friends" to go. And YES. Gaffney would have made an excellent water superintendent and I too believe that he was terminated to keep sligar out of other troubles. Wait to see just how incompetent Sligar was. It will be coming to light very soon and will be getting pretty expensive.

we said :33, lets hope for someone closer to Mary Corriveau rather than what he have had in the CM, P&R, City council, etc
