NYS Exposed: Should NY consider dropping the nickel deposit fee on bottles & cans? | WHEC.com

Of course it should be dropped. The Bottle Bill is an enormous make-work project that rips off consumers to the tune of 3.5 cents on every can or bottle they buy. It will never be repealed as laws never are.....especially ones that make money for sorters and for government.

It's like the 911 phone charge or the cable franchise fee..

I love the smell of garbage when I walk into the foyer at the grocer store, so I hope they never get rid of those bottle deposit machines. I also love rinsing a dimes worth of water down the drain in order to clean a nickle can before I bring it back.

8:16 you would also like to see more bottles and cans trashed along the highways and than have our highly paid state and county highway departments clean that up for you. That would make more sense ??.

Aluminum cans are really the only valuable recyclable items. Bottle bill takes them out of the general recycle stream, making recycling a burden to municipalities.

In California, you pay about a 3 cents per can 'redemption' fee for aluminum cans. Then you crush the empties flat and sell them back by the pound at the redemption centers. No more counting. Wake-up New York!

9:33,try not to be an idiot. A nickle doesn't stop polluters from polluting, anymore than a gun law stops shooters from shooting. In fact, even though we currently have deposits on bottles and cans, I just saw your momma picking up bottles and cans on the side of the road today.

You lie 703. We all know you are too lazy, living off the system, to be watching for someone's mama picking up returnables. Why not get off your butt and go pick them up yourself? :D
