NPR: Gun Death Shows Why They Were Correct on Raffle

Fair officials tell NPR the suicide by gunshot at the County Fair on Coffeen Street on Tuesday shows why it was right not to allow a local gun rights group to raffle off guns at a booth they had hoped to open.
Fair officials had said guns are controversial and ironically the little talked about shooting came along on the grounds, underscoring the issue of guns present even on city property.
That begs the issue of whether guns on the property are more or less a danger than a raffle.
Actually, there's few things more annoying than being hit up for raffle tickets, and I always figure I am just donating the money as you never know who won.

This was a mistake on the Committee's part. Do we have the right to own guns, do we have the right to have an abortion? Yes to both. If Planned Parenthood and all the other Women's Health Organizations can have a booth than so can SCOPE. I don't believe in abortion but have to walk by their table if I attend, so what is the difference in someone that doesn't share my love of guns? I won't be attending the Jefferson County fair based on this bad decision.

There are gun raffles at fairs across the State without incident. This incident occurred with a raffle ban in place. The NPR argument only exposes their personal bias and lack of objectivity.

So guns are to blame for a woman who illegally possessed a handgun and decided it was cool to shoot herself? That's a pretty dannnie point of view, I'd say. This is the stupid we seem to want. Obviously some folks on the fair board have wet panties over the stuff media tells them to. It's always gratifying when deep thinkers follow the crowd, as it were. I'm only one person, and my decision will only effect one other, but we will not go to the Jefferson Co Fair unless and until this stupidity changes. But in the age of the Liar in Chief and the Pants Suited Criminal, I don't see that happening.

Another point just made on TV was that we went to war during Bush administration over guys with simple boxcutters so please add them to your list of cant bring things.

Mr. Simpson and the COUNTY should pay dearly for this civil rights violation. Would they say it is controversial to hire Muslims and use that an excuse to exclude Muslims? This is one of the many counties that voted against the SAFE Act gun rights grab law, and that is proof that its not as controversial as is being implied. Meanwhile we have over 80 killed with a truck, yet the fair has a demolition derby going on.

There needs to be a lawsuit to make these totalitarian hateful political police pay for using their potion to push their political message and squash the rights of others. Even if the suit loses, it is good to make these people who are wrong, spend big money on a lawyer. Make them think thrice next time they pull this crap. PS...this should be a national news story.

Well first off by the time the raffle is drawn, the Fair is long gone, and second it seems odd that no checks or prohibits firearms on the property, I'm not going to the fair, and yes the fair Board are just another group of local Repubs....

Not that it matters that much, I suppose, but I no longer will go to the Jeff Co. Fair and spend any money there. Idiots.

I will however, go to the Lewis Co Fair and will more than likely buy twice as many tickets than I normally do for the gun raffle held there every year.

Find someone who is in Scope, and get a ticket. Problem solved. It is a bit late on a Friday to care.

Lewis County Fair is much better. Fewer drugs, criminals, and dumbasses. 9:35 has it fight. Alex Duffy would be ashamed of these dannie types and their PC BS.

Agreed Ray. Sometimes your like the wise man at the top of the mountain. :D

Scope will be at the Lewis Co Fair, and so will the Lewis County Assoc. of Sportsmen and most likely they will both be raffling guns off. The problem has nothing to do with finding or not finding a SCOPE member to buy a ticket from anymore than what day of the week it is has anything to do with it and you know it.

No Ray the problem is not solved by buying a ticket somewhere else. The problem will be solved with a lawsuit that forces the county to pay money for violating the civil rights of this group. That will be your tax dollars Ray.

Ray, I like you, but sometimes you aren't that bright. I remember when you cooed about O as you thought he would save your job. Your job wasn't going anywhere. I hope you think when you vote this time around. And D.,+), you talk about the top of the mountain. How would you know? You haven't been on top of anything in your life, per se.

Wrong 759. We went to war in Iraq due to lies from Bushie Jr about non-existent WMDs. You can stop lying anytime now...
