New Fiscal Year Dawns in City

Today is the first day with fewer captains as planned changes to the Fire Department take effect. Meanwhile firefighters have scheduled a protest rally for July 17th at the JB Wise parking lot. The new alignment is the result of the impasse in labor talks that may be headed to binding arbitration.

The firefighters have NOT planned any rally or have anything to do with it. It is being set up by a citizen in support.

This anti-taxpayer rally will not get many participants, other than from a few fire union members and their families.

You have to be kidding when you say that these demotions did not happen yet because they were waiting for the budget to go into effect. That is crazy! Do you mean to tell me that the current city council does not have the power to stop any spending that was authorized one year ago? These common sense efficiency cuts should have happened on the date the city manager directed the fire chief to implement them.

Absolutely disgraceful! This whole situation was caused by a lack of leadership, arrogance, an inability to negotiate, and back-handed games and unprofessional conduct if you ask me.

You would have to be stupid to not see what is going on and what has been going on. Fortunately, there are laws against exactly this kind of conduct and the city is going to find that out (just like they have every other time they have tried this kind of BS).. What is disgraceful is the fact that it is us taxpayers that are going to be left to pay for this whole mess. I think the CM should be asked to pay for some of this cost out of her own pocket. Maybe then she would understand. Give her 2 more years? They are they thinking? Change my Ass. More of the same bad decision making if you ask me.

Nobody asked you, 10:08. And if you paid your fair share of taxes like most people you might feel differently. It's the special deals that folks like you get that makes it hard on everyone else, per se.

4:13 I do pay for my share of taxes but should I have to continue paying for stupid decision by the CM and council. I see this going on for a very long time. The only one making out is the cities lawyer.
