Chamber Moving Back to Coffeen Street

The Greater Watertown Chamber of Commerce is moving it's offices back to the stone building on Coffeen Street near I-81..
They were unable to sell the building and their location in the Wright Conference Center on Faichney Drive left them hidden from view and financially strapped. Membership dwindled in part due to the inexplicable decision not to locate downtown and repeated instances where the Watertown Chamber dinners were held in places like Henderson or Clayton.
The Coffeen Street building is attractive and visible and with no prospect for selling at the large price they wanted, the organization will likely stay there.
I had been a member for 25 years and let my membership lapse this year.

Whatever clout the chamber used to carry, is long gone. Membership will continue to dwindle.

It's the Greater Watertown-NORTH COUNTRY Chamber of Commerce. While Watertown is a nice centralized location for a headquarters, it represents to entire area, and having a few dinners outside the sprawling metropolis of trickle-town shouldn't mean jack squat. As for the hq not being downtown, I don't blame them, since hardly any other businesses seem to want to be there, either.

Unless you are in the business of government, a business owner would have to be an idiot to join that club>. Even if the yearly dues were zero. The chamber is an extension of the democrat party and virtually everything they support is anti-business. Of course the biggest blunder was advising businesses to take Canadian at par. But that is just on top of the terrible politicians they support. And then there is the high paid Chambermaid who makes these genius decisions, like locating where no business wants to locate. At least he/she always has good pay and perks courtesy of area businesses.
