Big Hungry Put on a Diet

Only a day after I publicly praised her column in the Sunday WDT, food critic Big Hungry Shelby has been sacked.
The author of the popular column posted the news today with laments over the sagging plight of local newspapers.
We are sorry if my remarks hurt her and wish her well.
      Bon appetit !

There's really only so much for a food critic to do in the neck of the woods. All it really is is unpaid advertisement for one specific local restaurant per week (I'm sure the local "Titans of Food" love the savings there) because "OMG BIG BAD CHAIN EATERIES". Reading a review of a restaurant is as exciting as watching security camera footage, because all it consists of is someone regurgitating (no pun intended) what it was like to eat dinner. And when it comes to the reviews of the greasy-spoon diners... what's there to review? She says herself that food reviews are fluff pieces... she got to eat on the paper's dime for a good long time, she should consider herself lucky that someone wanted to pick up the check for as long as they did.

I can't figure out if that guy who called you about the supposed bogus restaurant review has it in for Shelby, the WDT, Koreans, or all of the above. Certainly has a bug up his butt about something.

I doubt your remarks mattered to the WDT. They've become cutthroat!

On BHS blog there was a nice invitation from Pete's Trattoria to stop in anytime.

Your word does not carry that kind of weight Jeff, sorry

Here's the perfect opportunity for Newzjunky to come up with some original content.

He should hire her.

Wow. That's disappointing. Hungry's columns were actually one of the best features of this sadly declining paper. To make something out of eating out in what's a small, small market really spoke well of her talents and reporting skills. I think dumping her is a mistake, and you should be applauded for calling attention to her efforts in the first place.
