Lots of laws get proposed every year in Albany. Many are housekeeping items, home rule bills and other things not really followed closely, but potentially expensive.
At a time when dealing with public employee unions is in the news locally (although in a tip of the iceberg manner), the WDT rightly points out all the bills in Albany that expand disability pensions for police and fire. The bills would expand presumptions of disability, raise to 75% the payouts, and do other things that make a costly and abused system more so.
Pension "sweeteners" are nothing new but little has been learned from the recent run-up in pension contribution rates which peaked a couple years back at over 30% for uniformed employees and over 20% for others.
Every sop handed out has a cost and one that continues in perpetuity.
