WDT: Sweeteners Get Expensive

Lots of laws get proposed every year in Albany. Many are housekeeping items, home rule bills and other things not really followed closely, but potentially expensive.
At a time when dealing with public employee unions is in the news locally (although in a tip of the iceberg manner), the WDT rightly points out all the bills in Albany that expand disability pensions for police and fire.  The bills would expand presumptions of disability, raise to 75% the payouts, and do other things that make a costly and abused system more so.
Pension "sweeteners" are nothing new but little has been learned from the recent run-up in pension contribution rates which peaked a couple years back at over 30% for uniformed employees and over 20% for others.
Every sop handed out has a cost and one that continues in perpetuity.

Its for the children.
Just look at our own local fire union to see the bullying and extortion tactics these groups do to politicians.

Then you have people on the golf course who already collect their pensions, (NYS tax free of course), who eagerly vote party line so as not to threaten their own gravy train of perks and they hope to even increase their own perks too.

648 you do not know what you are talking about (as usual). These laws are set at the state level and many were either instituted or expanded under REPUBLICAN leadership.

Here's a thought: Tax NYS pensions above a certain level, no more State Police retirees running for a Sheriff Job somewhere, then getting an UnderSheriff whose also getting a pension...Which is all tax free in NYS..The only thing more absurd is a Federal Pension which is tax free.

8:39 Oh my Gosh, how can we dare question the ethical moral compass of public servants. Our elected official neighbors bringing home their lavish pensions and double. triple dipping.

All on the backs of their fellow citizens and neighbors, Sheriffs and Undersherrifs maybe netting 3 times what their neighbor earns.

Doesn't sound ethical or moral to me, but silly me I just wonder why there isn't more outrage.

Have we been beaten down enough, no you say vote for the Double Dipper Democrats.

Sorry Puke, I mean 7:57, there's no amount of bs from you that is going to convince thinking people that NYS is run by the Republican party. But you go ahead and emit nonsense. Golfers everywhere believe you.

10:40, that's really weak. I would expect more from some with taxpayer financed education degrees, advanced leadership training, and experience as the King of Korea. C'mon, give it a real effort.
