Philadelphia City Council passes beverage tax with 13-4 vote | 6abc.com

Here we go again. Lawmakers who want to spend but want you to think they aren't raising taxes....In the City of Brotherly Love, a 1.5 cent/ounce soda tax is being imposed...It was rationalized by saying the money will fund Pre-K programs for the kids. Gee, seems the City Council could have funded that for Philadelphians anyway.
The soda tax can join some of our local scam taxes like hotel beds, cell phone 911, cable TV and your utility bills. In fact, locally its been heard at City Hall the cable tax is flattening out as a money source because of other delivery systems like satellite and the Internet. Hmmmmm.
Would you favor a municipal soda tax ?  No ? What if I told you the money would be used to fund the war on heroin ?  I thought so.

War on heroin? Still no.
And for the record, the war on heroin is about like our war on illegal immigration. You have people announcing they're illegal and the feds do nothing. You report parolees using drugs, their parole officers are "too busy" to do anything.

Government grows. If it initiates a bs program, that program grows more slowly, but it still grows. Not much of anything ever gets cut. The schools will tell you they have had cuts, but they lie. It is tough to understand why so many love government as they do. I'm thinking they believe they can get their kids on the payroll too.

If it were to be used for heroin addiction I say ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!!! Not one PENNY of taxpayers money should be spent on drug addiction of ANY kind! Drug use is a CHOICE, NOT a disease, and every single person who ever started using whatever shit they are using was well aware of the consequences before they started using.

It doesn't matter what you (8:08) think or anyone else. Government has a momentum all its own. We are now flooded with dannies, people who are entitled, love their party far more than they love their country, and view themselves as superiors. We borrow money from our kids. We run up debt that will never be repaid. Nobody cares, as the mall hours and texting is more important than anything else. We are a putrid society, one that can only continue to rot. If you want to survive, get a government job, teach, hell, drive a snowplow. But if you want a life for you and your kids that is not precarious, do not work for private industry. YOu might do well for a while. But the only real guarantee of a forever is with government. Do it for the children.
