WDT: Former highway superintendent accused of illegally selling Watertown town equipment

Somebody was out to get somebody. A town highway super is charged with official misconduct and petit larceny for allegedly selling scrap metal and using the money to buy meals for town employees and to be equipment.
That's the kind of informal and friendly ways you see in towns where there is little oversight and people don't get all jazzed up over it. Someone had a burr under their saddle.
Maybe its the new Watertown highway super who makes $80K a year for an elected office.

But this is the kind of unaccountable government you seem to advocate, do away with paid appointed staff or administrators and go with elected individuals. This is what you get with the latter; amateurs who have a free for all with constituent's money and people who do not understand the concept of procedures.

Um..yeah..none of that stuff goes on in the city, right Jeff? Cop shoots his girlfriend's boyfriend, DPW guy gets fired for probably doing the right thing, parks and rec clerks with uncashed checks in the desk. If this is the worst that happens in the town it's not such a bad thing. What a crock. Scrap metal the "art" piece and buy the city workers lunch.

Sour Grapes from somebody. It happened in 2011, 5 years ago.

The Town Board needs to step up and do the right thing for the Highway Supt.

If he did what it says that he did : Good for him and his men.

ALL FOR 1 AND 1 FOR ALL.

Tsk tsk...
Looks like the RINOs in the Town Of Watertown can't get along either, huh?
So typical, seeing them cut each other's throats.
Reminds me of the biggest RINO in the gop's history.
You know, what's his name... I believe he's running for president right now... :D

Hey, this sounds a lot like the story up in the River town of cape Vincent. Remember old Harry Landers kept asking the town board what happened to the old water tank? Seems somebody stole it and sold it for scrap. Surprisingly, nobody in any official capacity could remember any details. No records??

Don't they call that the perks of office?

What he did was agaisnt NYS municipal law but does not sound like it is larceny. More of a petty cash documentation issue.

How is this any different then letting employees rack up overtime to pad their retirement?

OT is legal, theft is not. Clear that up for you, did I?
