WDT: Firefighters’ union counters city attacks

I think its a matter of strategy to draw the fire union into the mud and a prickly public battle with the Third Floor. In doing so the union loses much of its ability to wrap themselves in the mantra of protecting the public, and instead come across as another union busting the bank of taxpayers, many of whom don't make nearly as much as the aggrieved union members.
The straw man argument on OT and the panting for 24 hour shifts is not convincing. The union has some good arguments like the one made by the guy who called the show today....
People are getting tired of everyone else coming first.

The guy who called your show today made a terrible argument.
What a preposterous thing to say...that the city's plan is to hope there isn't a fire and if there is one let it burn. It only takes three people and a truck to put out a fire. And you can bet your life that they will do it a lot safer than 15 slugs on a 24 hour shift would.

Your amnesia is a little suspect. It was the fire union who started taking things public way back during last years campaign. They lost big time at the polls and the people who voted for the high priced city slicker lawyer won their seats hands down. But the fire union needs a remedial class, because instead of learning from their spanking, they came back with more of the same stuff they lost on.

No one has mentioned the the firemen SLEEP all night, the police and DPW don't get to sleep on the job. I'm sure the firemen want to sleep during their proposed 24hr shift, so they can go work another job - so much for safety. Its about time the Council stopped the fire department getting what they want

You are SO right.. They cant get them, and the city needs to realize that.
When the tax base goes down, you can only have three people to thank.
Butler, Macaluso, and Jennings. They accomplished that.
They should be proud.

10:23 you are so clouded..
i know for a fact that some DPW workers, or State Corrections, State Plow drivers, police all who work through the night take a rest where and when they can for some shut eye. Its a known fact and if you know one of them you would realize this and realize how stupid or naive you are. Its a fact of overnight work. Go to the ER if its not busy, and wonder where the Dr on call is.. he/she is sleeping in their organized dorm. Look for ambulance people when not on calls during the night, they are sleeping, Your job may not allow you to sleep at night because you dont have a job and can sleep during the day and leave the nights for sitting on your porch talking on your Obama phone.
Enjoy it.
