It's tough when you have good intensions, work hard, do all the right things by the usual standards, are treated deferentially, and all around you the people in this great democracy feel otherwise. It's a reality that's hard to adjust to.
DC is still chugging along but the peasants are in revolt and have chosen someone to lead a party who is crude by Washington standards. Someone who challenges conventional party dogma and someone not inclined to conform easily to the ways of the capital. They have almost done the same thing on the other side of the "aisle" that defines life for DC insiders.
All of this threatens the comfy but ineffective life in the majority of both houses. Meanwhile, the impulse to sink the insurgent only brings the certainty of Hillary Clinton. It's enough to make you choke on your steak at Bobby Vans.
Rising through the ranks...raising the most money.....knowing what's best when no one else does....this year it doesn't seem to mean as much and that takes some getting used to.
