GOP Has a Challenger...Why Isn't Bill Nelson Running for Assembly ?

As Republicans wait for their Assembly hopefuls to actually hold a press conference, I was wondering today why one of their best prospects for election doesn't run. A political friend of mine said he likely would clear the field.
Bill Nelson With Future MOC Stefanik in 2014
Mayor Bill Nelson is out of office but did four terms in the Maple City. He knows how state government works (President of NY Conference of Mayors), is a good speaker and an attractive candidate.
Sure, after all those years as mayor, he has his detractors in the 'Burg, but this is a candidate who could win against Addie Russell.
Sure the former Olympic bobsledder and the former bar owner are nice guys but I really think Bill could mount a solid challenge.  Someone who could win on their merits.

If your asking seriously why he isnt running its because he has just barely won his last two elections by a two election total of 12 votes.
Did he do well as mayor? Some say yes some say no I say just come to Ogdensburg and see for yourself..
He sacraficed a city manager or he would have lost the last election.
The picture you show him with Stefanik but he wouldnt endorse her at all.
Too much time spent on his pride and joy the greenbelt..(beautiful but only used by the well off of the city).. This came at a price... Drive up and down our streets and see the decay and decaying streets and houses. Absolutely no effort by him toward economic developement. Only the bridge and port authority has helped in this city... We have a few new businesses opening here and there but for evertyone we have two have closed..
He became somewhat dictatorlike for his last two terms .
He was very friendly but most people feel that phony smile and backpatting of his was just something to beware of..
Would he make a good Assembly person NO..If it was Republcian controlled POSSIBLY.. But its not and never will be..
At least with Addie we have a chance for her bartering on our behalf and she could get some support..

Nelson couldnt win his home town let alone a assembly district. Not a popular dude..

Bill Nelson appears nice on the surface and while genial one on one has provided absolutely zero visionery leadership . Ogdensburg has languished and not kept pace with Canton or Potsdam during the past two decades .

Population has declined due to lack of opportunity ,our best and brightest young people leave in droves as a result .
There has been zero new housing starts in his admin , decay of existing housing stock continues to Be a problem. Neighborhoods in several areas of the city are. No longer safe at night . The town is bleak and many without work turn to desparete measures that affect the quality of life here

Bill also tended tp play politics and not be focused on getting substantive measureable progress on the problems cited above in the last two terms again. A seemingly nice guy but . Not a visionery leader i.e. In TRUMPS termiology, simply LOW energy .So Imho would be a serious uphill climb for him to carry the immediate environs . The previous poster is accurate about the last several elections

All I want to know is how Nelson will look in a maid's outfit. Yous knows we have to be open about such things in Obamaland. Does a pants suit qualify you to piss in a men's bathroom? If so, I understand her excitement.

If it was a Republican controlled seat Nelson would probably do well. He has a likable personality and he has made connections throughout his career most notably from NYCOM. He marginally won his last few races in the City of Ogdensburg but everyone is fed up with the lack of progress in our city. I have worked with trying to progress the city personally and it is NOT easy. No money is being funneled to our area for economic growth. Drive around small cities through out the state and you will see it is not just Ogdensburg. The City has too many low income rentals and welfare. I talked to Nelson and his wife not too long ago after he ended his Mayorship. I don't think he has any aspirations to move into the larger political arena. He seems quite content living life with his wife and who could blame him?
