City Looking for Support for Its Position

Playing hardball.....that's the characterization of some media outlets towards the gloves off approach to the fire union announced yesterday by Mayor Joe Butler, Jr.  One frequent radio caller , says the tide is turning against the union.
We are waiting for the revelations which are supposed to sway public opinion as the union conducts its own PR war against the Third Floor.
Support from radio gadflies on either side of town is one thing, but eyes at 245 are firmly fixed across the street for public validation and guidance as they have gotten private urging to go after the union for years.
The most recent tome from 260 supported the union but we will see what comes next.

The Mayor and the City Manager are doing what needs to be done. The contract with the firequeens needs to change. If city residents are stupid enough to allow a few self serving children continue to screw them, then they deserve what they get.

The tide has always been against the unions unreasonableness. That is the main reason the inferior mayor beat you out for the spot that you served so well in. That does not mean the taxpayers are against the union, per se. If they start acting reasonable for a change, they will be treated better than fair, as they always have been.

Of course 260 Washington St. is against the Union, hell everyone is, take NOW got away with paying sub-standard wages for their projects, and using public Dollars, hey as a taxpayer did I vote for that?? Oh wait there a NFP..

Dan, I mean 1:56, for a guy who doesn't pay full taxes, get special deals at the PX, has income that is not taxed, and on and on, you sure do care about those poor folks who don't get all your FreeStuff.

Happen to know that 250 and 255 are sick of the feuding between 245 and 260, 275 has offered them a sweeter deal, stay tuned.

I am really still flabbergasted about Councilwoman Macaluso and her un-substantiated information. The fire department has NEVER asked to inspect private dwellings. They know they CANNOT do this and NEVER have. If she is so sure, then why doesn't she at least give the name of those who complained in confidence to the fire chief and he can take care of it. It should be confidential and he is management so should be ok to accept it and discuss or be proven that he is wrong. Businesses have never been threatened to an inspection either. If not a good time, then the members would always go back for another appointment. Blocking her driveway???They never parked in the street on a busy street to do an inspection. They would have parked in a parking lot or side street to walk the main streets like Coffeen, Washington, State, Aresenal etc. I think she is mistaken about the time when there was an accident and the trucks might have blocked her driveway at the EMERGENCY. They are trained to use the truck to be a buffer between them and the oncoming traffic for safety reasons, and she did complain to the guys on this call and they politely said they would move the truck once the emergency was over and it was safe to do so. I really don't think, 10, 15 or however many minutes it took were that bad, to keep the firemen and people involved in the accident safe. If this is the time they blocked her driveway, then it was a valid thing and she needs to move on to another try to banish the department. Sick leave is another issue she spoke of. It is a difficult job to do when there are stomach issues, or injuries which hamper their job of crawling on the ground, climbing ladders, not capable of going to the bathroom like office people have the privilege, so there are times when they need to be sick because they cannot temp to do the job for the day any of these issues face them in the day. Many other jobs are different. There are doctor appointments which need to be taken care of and the reasons are really not anyone's business but the employees, as long as they have a doctors slip. If they need to visit a specialist who gives them a date which is in the near future and its a working day, I'm sure NOBODY would say I cannot come because I am working and wait for the next appointment which may be a month or longer out. That is just not common sense and they are there for them, and should NOT put their health issues behind what she thinks should be done. It would rally be an advantage to have ALL the council members visit the fire station and understand how the vacation picks work, the sick leave works, how they do not accumulate sick time after they collect so many days, they just give them back each month. How they are charged vacation days for days they are already off. These are the many things they have given up which don't make the statements when she gives an opinion. She is way off on what she says and really needs to at least give the complaint name or address to the city manage so they are valid and not just hide behind saying her constituents have complained. Give the complaint to the department head so they can validate it and take care of the issue.

The fire Dept. does a good Job But everyone is missing the point here, We no longer can afford a over staffed fire Dept. or any other city dept. for that matter. Please don't play the Safety or child card on every issue that comes before the council . Look around watertown every business is cutting back and the council owes it to the tax payers to cut cost and control tax increases.

6:34 - hey, asshole, unless you work on my tax returns, or have access to my personal finances, then STFU...

I get NOTHING free; I pay a lot of taxes; and I contribute to a lot of charities; I carry my load; and, if any of my pay (military or SS or 401(k)/TSP) are exempt, then why don't you work change those laws?

I abide by the law - all laws - but I guess you do not? You, whoever you are, are shameful.

Good point 1021 did you say this when we hired the new CM and started her out at more money??? Did you bring the "child card" to the Watertown School Board who acquired the USAR center on Pine St.? Let us know which Depts. you want to do without, and what cuts in service you want................................................
