WDT: Y Bursting at Seams

Today the WDT reports the local YMCA is so successful they don't have the space for all their athletic programs between their locations downtown and at the Fairgrounds complex once owned by The Ultimate Goal.
Under the soon to retire director Peter Schmitt, the Y has grown and provides a range of services. At one time there were overtures to take over city recreation programs, but it went nowhere.
There are also private gyms and a new childrens play center downtown opening soon. As options increase. it is likely the issue will be revisited.

Why wouldn't they prosper, no taxes, There in competiton with private business, probably why Ultimate Goal never made it..

I would start by talking to Indian River Central.

Second, pursue purchasing Bruce Wright building.

Is this the story you would pick to lead with today?

Its no wonder they are running out of space. Look at the pictures of the bored soccer moms waiting in the bleachers. These days they have to compete with the other soccer moms and that means keep their young kids busy with this type of stuff 7 days a week 52 weeks a year. They don't send the kids out to play anymore and if they did, they would have to give them a ride to whatever friends house they were playing at. Kids don't know how to play Wiffle ball or freeze tag or red rover or dodge ball anymore, instead they are placed on a pedestal in a gymnastics pageant. And when they are all done with gymnastics, they will each get a participation trophy too.

Even the naysayers can't help themselves on the Y!! Good for Peter and the crew over there. It's too bad they didn't run Parks and Recs. That would have been a great fit for everyone and removed that floundering department from the city payroll. Continues success!!

Have to agree, just another NFP at the watering trough taking away business from a private business. Can anyone guess what Peter gets paid, or even his SFB's sidekick Steve, I can't keep my pants on? Staggering.....
