WDT: Governor Cuomo appoints Chistopher Coffin to Morristown Town Supervisor

The Town of Morristown has a supervisor.  Former radio executive Chris Coffin was appointed by Governor Cuomo after a series of snafus left the Town without a functioning town board.

Its certainly good to know old June has much more influence than our local Senator Ritchie. Addie asked for help and was heard by June then the Governor.. Ritchie hasnt any real influence only the privilege of voting with the felons.

It is very rare to find media guy that is a democrat.

I read the article in the Times. What do you mean David Murray is out of luck.. Did he express interest in the job, if so I was unaware of it??
Chris Coffin is a fine replacement and Addie Russell expressed her thanks to the Governor. Has Ms. Ritchie thanked him yet for his swift action to help the Morristown Town residents. If she dosnt I assume the residents should find out why>
She said she would go along with it only if he re-appointed the previous supervisor so one could only assume she isnt very influencial in the State like June Oneil...

First off, David Murrary is the incompetent Town Clerk who failed to get the three board members to sign the Oaths of Office, he was not the Supervisor. That distinction belonged to Putman who gamed the system and lost epically when he failed to take/file his Oath of Office.

However, I'm not so sure the Governor's appointment was legal (just lending yet more buffoonery to the Morristown circus) because Putman resigned his town supervisor position in July which required that his position be filled in the November 2015 election (it wasn't). I don’t believe NY law allows the governor to appoint someone to a vacancy created by an expired term - that vacancy must be filled by a special election. Of course, why would we expect our beloved Governor to follow the law when he gets the opportunity to put a Democrat into a solid GOP municipality?

9:41PM Obviously you either can't read or don't want to be confused by the facts. The Governor, in his appointment, cites the appropriate section of Town Law which gives him the undisputed authority to appoint under these circumstances. Hopefully the people of Morristown will not elect any of the three Morristown buffoons now that they have the chance to throw the incompetents out!

6:55AM. Thanks for the morning laugh. I actually have a pretty good grasp of the facts as reported and I can read fairly well. I can assure you that the Governor's appointment to the Town Supervisor position was without statutory authority.

If you actually care to educate yourself, go to FindLaw like I did and read NYS Public Law section 43 (the provision the Governor acted under). That provision says:

"If a vacancy shall occur, otherwise than by expiration of term, with no provision of law for filling the same, if the office be elective, the governor shall appoint a person to execute the duties thereof until the vacancy shall be filled by an election."

Not to confuse you with facts and NY law but when Putman resigned in July 2015 he created a vacancy that had to be filled in the 2015 general election which was not done. NY law states that when a vacancy remains due to an expired term, that vacancy has to be filled by special election, it cannot be appointed.

The Governor could have appointed to the other 2 positions because they were not expired terms, those vacancies are to be filled in the 2016 General Election. However, he could not appoint a Supervisor - that had to be done by special election.

Perhaps I should be more concerned with your blind faith in the Governor?

655 Your absolutely correct.. The next thing is please do not re-elect any of the incompetants back.. I dont think Mr VanArnaum will qualify anyway as he probably will be a felon by then. Mary Rain will take this to Grand Jury and the worse case senerio will be he will plea to a misdemeanor and pay a fine.. Any one knowing the facts of the case would be hard pressed to vote for a felon which he will be by admission to get the lower charge.
Patty Ritchies request fell on deaf ears as it was absolutely ignored because of the fact Mr Putman was part of the problem.. You dont solve problems by putting the people that caused them in office.
I will say this about Mr Murray. He is not incompetent. At most possibly a little negligent in some matters. When his term is up the taxpayers can decide what they think of him. He still gets my vote.
