Schumer Calls for Halt to Unwanted Robo Calls

Senator Schumer echoes the frustrations of many in asking for ways to block unwanted robocalls.
I don't know if there is a way to do that, but solicitations are now creeping into my cell phone as they find out the number. Auto extended warranties on cars I no longer own are common.
The biggest annoyance is if you are a small business. All day robo calls and worse, manned calls trying to fish for information from naive employees who happen to answer.
However, how practicle is it to dictate who can call your number, particularly if its in the phone book.  Are there still phone books ?

That must be "Chuckie's Chuckle" of the day. And this year being a hot election year, who will be making the most robo calls? If you answered politicians, you are absolutely correct.

They could stop them if they wanted to, just like they stop spam.

Personally I tried National no call list.. It helped but dfidnt solve. I would rather they put an effort into solving these rip off artists and how to find them.

Of course, the most annoying robo-calls are those that come from politicians as we near an election cycle. Despite Chucky Cheese Schumer's bravado with this latest cause, I would bet there is a carve-out that allows politicians to continue the practice.

The problem is many of those rip off artists live in Africa and Europe, and we don't demand the authorities there arrest and incarcerate them, instead we give their governments millions of dollars, courtesy of you the taxpayer.

The problem with the law that governs the no-call list is that it provides far too many exemptions. Charities, anyone you do business with, pollsters and politicians are all exempt from its provisions. In addition, some of the calls come from outside the country and are beyond reach of the law.

Mr. Graham, you have iPhone and I too am small business owner receiving many unwanted Robo calls daily. Solution ? I selected the LEAST loud and most quiet "ring tone" for ALL CALLS in the general settings (and turn off vibrate) then, and yes it takes 30 minutes of time, I go to my address book and edit each of my favorite contacts and turn ON my favorite ringtone for those people and companies or businesses whom I will generally always answer to. Bottom line is the common phone calls are missed by me. I am now much happier !!

Easy way to avoid them, got sick of stupid call after call. For my I phone I put it on do not disturb so if you are not on my contact list it goes straight to voice mail which I can delete without listening to it.For the home phone bought a Digitone call blocker , Any number starting with 8** area code automaticaly is dumped without ringing and other numbers can call once then I block them forever. Works fairly well and stops about 95% of bullcrap calls. Now if only someone can invent a way to send million volt electric charge back on the line to the jerk on the other end I'd be really happy!!
