North Country Not a Destination

The Census Bureau estimates Jefferson County's population has inched up by 1400 over the last five years, while the two adjacent counties have declined slightly.
The news is really, that despite all the marketing, steering councils, regional oversight and "vision", NNY is falling behind, albeit more slowly than some NY counties.

Most anyone who moved here was moved here by social services.

But the statistics are misleading as Camp Drum brings a lot of people who don't move here by choice. And while prisoners don't really live hear according to Addie's party, the census might see things in a more truthful light. And then of course there are people like the former radio mogul and Obama voter who "lives in Florida" but sleeps in NY more months of the year.

8:51 no government agency or "non-profit" research group is going to allow any information to leak out that would support 7:19's claim. But screw your head on and do your own math. For two generations we have sent our best away. If daddie didn't own a business, or had the clout to get you a government job, you left. Every family here in NNY has been effected. If you are a smart, motivated youth, you leave. We live in a beautiful area, but economically, we are a sewer. The people who stay know our social service network is the best on the planet. They may be lazy, but they aren't stupid. The stay, they relax, and they vote more than you think. With a maniac for a governor and a one party system, NNY continues to rot. But there are bright sides to that. You can pick up some cheap land and housing from some poor schmuck who used to have an industrial job.

One more thing, 8:51. Don't assume you know who you are responding to. All the military intelligence and leadership training has failed you again, as it were.

How about the four points housing coalition bringing people here from South Carolina because there's more "resources" here than S.C.(his words not mine) so hat's off to the Urban Mission's Coalition..

All you need to do is read the North country Briefs, to figure out that social services is importing people here.

8:51, Everyone but you, knows who the radio mogul is. Do yourself a favor and instead of listing things you don't know, make a list of things you DO know. Never mind...I'll do it for you:

1. Always vote donkey.

The middle class is being forced to leave beautiful upstate NY,because their jobs are outsourced and leave them with part time or low wage jobs, not enough to keep up with the ever increasing taxes. You can only afford to live here if you are well connected rich, government jobbed,or the welfare state.Sad what NY has become.
