IACA Club Members Told Bravo Fest Not to be at Arena

I went to the Italian American Club monthly dinner tonight and the discussion was on efforts to put the club on firmer fiscal ground, but the real surprise was the decision to hold this year's Bravo Festival at the Club on Bellew Avenue and not at the Fairgrounds Arena.
Miss Italia Pageant Among Fond Memories at Arena
Citing cost and city insistence on putting ice down on September 1,  Club members were told of the decision. Not all agreed, as some felt the Arena provides a grander event.
I think it came down to being cautious. A lesser event with much lower expenses may help the bottom line.
Social and civic clubs are a waning breed and it's tougher and tougher to make them work, so on the one hand I understand the conservative approach.....But the Arena provided a nice September event in the Flats.
      Oh well.
The Arena opens Thursday, with no fanfare, although I am told the staff has been told they are operating the snack bar.  Now they will have to get a Health Department permit, which should be no problem for a municipal government.

I am sure the good people at Parks and Recs gave this fine event a fair price LOL. Again, sales, sales, sales. Not that department's forte. But, what is?

What about the fairground exhibition hall

Too bad the event is not being held at the arena. P&R may be pushing away traditional events to other sites. We will wait and see.

It makes sense to have it at the club and to make it more of a nieghborhood event.

Always a good event. Hope it is a success.

Just the beginning of events the Queen of Parks is pushing to other venues.

Its To Bad The Bravo Fest Won't Be At The Arena This Year Do To The Cost For Set Up, And Do To Erin Gardener With The Price Of 9,300 To Set Up For The Fest. The Fest Is Been There When I Was A Officer Of The IACA Club. She Is Just Trying To Keep People Out. And I Hear The Hockey Team Might Not Come Back Do To Ms.Gardener's Price To Them. The City Needs To Have A Sit Down With Her.

She is not the only calling the shots. This goes through the CM for approval. Simply stated the council is worthless unless they start telling the CM this is what WE want. Council needs to answer to the public/taxpayers! It is time to answer to us! Hey Joe what do you say?

10:22, the only sit down needs to be brief, YOUR FIRED, shouldn't take long, in fact should have time to squeeze Ms. Addison in for the same speech, all before breakfast.

Well said all...this is why sports teams have failed in this community and now an annual event like this fest is being moved. Concerts are becoming rarer since moved...this list goes on and on. Just keep pushing people away. How is that naming rights coming??

Its better to hold the event at the club this would be more cost effective and friendly neighborhood oriented , Im sure if they would have held it at the club in the earlier years it would have been a successes also. Look at St. Anthony caramel feast has been doing well on their grounds for many years. The Watertown taxpayers footed the entire arena upgrade and some posters now want us to subsidize every group who wants to rent the place now.

Empty arenas bring in no revenue.

Too bad the former mayor and former / current council did not have the fore though to add an ice floor to the Arena project. Way to limit a "multi use" facility to four months of the year.

Why doesn't anyone think Ice in September is screwed up?
