What is a Progressive ?

The argument on the Democratic side has come down to just who is a progressive......Is there is real definition of the word popularized in the early 20th Century, when Teddy Roosevelt style trust busting, environmental awareness, and political reform was taking place. That's the era where we got direct election of Senators and the income tax.
Today,"progressive" has evolved.  It has turned the Democratic Party on its ear with everyone wanting to be one but only one willing to also accept the more ominous moniker "socialist."

Libs have learned that language is everything and therefore the transformation from "liberal", with its well earned negative connotations, to "progressive" which has a more positive ring to it. As you hinted, socialist is the most accurate description of these big government, share the wealth types.....

A "progressive" is a contronym that is mostly used today to mean regressive. It basically means to get rid of the checks and balances on govenrment and turn over huge amounts of power to a few, often unelected decision makers. It means to write a rule and law for every circumstance but only enforce them selectively. It means to rewrite history to fit a narrative. And most of all it means to take from the workers and productive remember of society and give to the slackers in what amounts to a tried and true failed version of socialism. The same version that resulted in fascism and Nazism.

A Progressive is the opposite of a regressive.
Hence, the Don Trump presidential run. :D

7:21am You nailed it! A local progressive is AJR, State Level, Luv Guv Andy Dandny, Local icon Teddy F, Always running Progressive Candidate Teachout, Progressive/Establishment in hiding that knows how to play everyone is Gillibrand, Socialist not near progressive is Sanders, Establishment and old white (Enough is Enough) which we hear everyone now saying, from Obama down to Progressive Gillibrand.

Shucks poor Danny, he has no idea where he is on the progressive scale but he knows he has been used by the establishment party.

Now Addie, you can't sit on both sides of the fence, are you with the establishment Donkey al la Clinton or are you with the Progressives. You must be so torn since Bernie once penned in his youth that all Democrat women want their men to come home from work and be kind of rough with them you know using the R word or are you with solid Clinton and want to see a PP facility on every corner of every urban city so minority women can kill a full term baby. I'm guessing you are a solid establishment Hillary type since you are still fighting for the 10th plank, the Woman's right to abort/kill a full term baby and there is not a thing anyone can do about it.

Yea Addie, you are such a solid role model that we wish all our daughters grow up to be just like you.

It seems our posters are pretty much spot on this time. Liberals, basically people who recognize no fiscal restraints, have finally become recognized for what they are. They have made people sick with their flexible values and dishonesty. So, what to do? Their base, consisting primarily of silver spoon rich people who never really worked, thugs who never have or intend to work, government employees and teachers, along with misfits and criminals, are easily manipulated. I forgot the gay/transgender crowd whose armpit hair is the most important thing in their lives. The witch community is also heavily leaning towards the Donkey party. So, we change Liberal to Progressive. It confuses their base, as the word has more letters in it. It sounds cool. Makes you feel smart and superior. Good for parties at the houses of fashionable people. Simple. Get a bad name for yourself, just change it.

Actually, a true liberal is not a bad thing. The problem is that "liberal" is like "progressive", in that it has come to mean the opposite of its original meaning.

If you scratch the surface of the position that a modern American liberal takes, on virtually any issue, it is inherently illiberal. Hence the preference by us centrists, to call them by a more proper term such as librul or libtard.

Think about it...how does a fine librul like AJR arrive at her stance that a womyn should have the right to murder her baby up to the second it comes out the hooha? What is liberal bout that stance?

Or lowering the test scores so that a minority can get a firefighter job. How is that liberal?

Or just look at every "higher" education campus in America, where great minds like the other idiot Obama appointed to the Court, decided she would not let the military have free speech on her campus. Yup, that is the other tell tail sign of a modern liberal, they are vehemently against free speech. Especially if that speech is coming from a Koch brother.

Ironic how GOPers love to "define others according to their own label and standard that is fashionable, but go into a wild frenzy when someone, anyone in fact tries to define and label them and narrow-minded, selfish ways that happen to fit the GOPer/RWwer/TEA leaning harsh ways ... why is that?

We probably should ask Karl Rove - he is one who designed that strategy - that is: define your opponent before they get a chance to define themselves.

Danny, the above comments are undeniable observations. Feel free to define "Progressive" for us and see if anyone agrees with you.

One thing that was not mentioned above is that progressives like their pensions to be tax free in NY state while advocating more taxes for the rich. And your answer to that is if we don't like it, then vote for someone who will change it.

Dannie claims Republicans and Conservatives are the ones who label the most. Then offers a list of smears his own controllers have coined. He makes his opponent's point. When it comes to clichés and canned labeling of others, his party leads the way, as it were.
