WDT: The Reverand Raps the Times

OMG....oops sorry....but clergy to the paper rapping them over coverage of doctor's billing practices just struck me as something I wouldn't see.

Does this make it open season ?

Watertown Daily Times | The Rev. Fred G. Garry: Local doctors deserve our support

Having dealt with the ER doctor's billing firm, I can honestly say they are dreadful. However, the practice is ultimately responsible for whom they hire. Thus, I'll buy what you're peddling, Dr. Garry, if they fire their billing firm - like SMC fired the outfit that was reading their imaging - Sunset Radiology, I believe.

Jeff - can u link the WDT article today about the other 12 practices please. That would seem fair. Last week people on this blog were suggesting that these two ladies were thieves, scammers, etc. and everyone was happy to pile on. Now, however, upon a deeper dive into the story, it becomes clear that 13 total practices - whom many of us in this community use - all had over billing errors because of the unique disignation of this area and the unique aspect of our military soldiers and families receiving medical services from off base medical facilities. Tri-care apparently was confused too. But yet that story isn't as juicy as "skimmers" and "hand caught in cookie jar". Now are we to believe that all 13 practices got together - I'm sure at the Black River Valley Club - to come up with their elaborate scheme for all of them to defraud the military? Or alternatively, maybe, just maybe could it be that it really was a billing error by all parties including Tri-Care and now all the money has been returned. And perhaps the doctors are not skimming crooks as they were portrayed in WDT article and by posts on this Blog.

He is chairman of the SMC Board... hmmm. So his over the top support of his boys and girls is no surprise.

As for his wonderful treatment as a patient, the Samaritan patient board would have flagged him as VIP so everyone would know not to give him the standard of care we unwashed masses get.

I am truly disappointed in him. Where are Irene and Tom comments this? Sad.

3:56 - There is a difference between stopping when you are told to and NOT. That is why the other practices merely had to pay back the overpayment and the ERs billing company was fined. Look at the dates the others stopped. Years earlier than the ER. Speaks volumes to anyone paying attention. It was because they kept using the modifier that everyone was investigated in the first place. Just coukdnt be happy taking advantage for a few years but kept it up even after being told to stop.
Since when is the Reverend an expert in medical billing? Is that what his doctorate is in? Seems ironic that he is the President of the Board and is publically supporting these doctors as fine upstanding citizens. Read the paper Reverend Garry, good people commit these write collar crimes all the time. It's just called embezzlement. Stick with what you know. Don't be the mouth piece if the hospital. They have a paid spokesperson

Wow. Wow. Is this an official position of Samaratan, the SMC Board and First Presbyterian Church and the Congregation? Should we cancel our subscriptions to the Times?

They were all doing something that they shouldn't and they got caught. You have to know the rules for the business your in, regardless of how complicated they are.

I often see questionable billing claims made by my doctors. Sometimes there are claims by doctors I've never seen, but are a partner in a practice that I go to. Don't know how that happens. I've had hand surgery in Syracuse, and the doctors name on the billing was the foot surgeon.

As long as I don't get a bill I don't care.

Smc was using the $ to fund the $10 food and gas cards they give out to people who endured 8+hours wait time to get care.

Look to yourself Reverend. Is it charity and forgiveness you seek or personal?

The Rev. is more of a well-connected politican than a Church Leader...

Thought his name was Johnson-Garry.
He's their guy.
So is Rande or Rande or whatever.
So is the YMCA guy,
So is the Chamber.
So is SLU and Clarkson.

Guess not everyone has seen the memo "Johnsons: We were once a force."

Rev. Smiley crossed the line and look what happened to him.
Better be careful!

Do they still pay $50 for local columns?

Not sure I agree with 8:11, but I do know he is not a businessman. We sure don't need any more politicians that don't understand business.

So that makes him the perfectly qualified person to chair the Samaritan Board. The largest employer after Drum. Small wonder SMC CEO makes so much (note I did not say earn) and also the senior staff.

How much has Samaritan donated to First Pres?
