WDT: MOCs Suggest Scrapping Selective Service All Together.

I suggested this the other day when Senator Gillibrand suggested women registering for Selective Service.  Why not get rid of the whole unused bureaucracy since America will likely not need or tolerate conscription.
Of course this would eliminate a whole department with lots of highly paid people.....but isn't that what downsizing is all about.
Watertown Daily Times | Make women eligible for the draft? No, new legislation says: Ditch the system entirely.

excellent idea, cannot the plan be saved to computer and implemented if we are attacked to the point that we need massive numbers of troops? In fact, aren't there plans already if we need lots of personnel and how to clothe, feed, house and move them?

There is still a Draft Board in place in Watertown! Take a guess at the members!

Great point 849.

If we ever need the draft again we're done for anyway.

'They' must include women in a draft law. I was drafted a very long time ago and realized that when I went to college the women all had a two year jump on their careers over us draftees. It was just unfair to have drafted only men!

Hmmm... I don't think this will happen. We don't like fresh, new ideas around this area.

911 proved Americans care about their country anyway. Many a guy signed up the next week for service. I have to think in need this country would see enough people signing up to make an army.

Jeff, don't worry about the thousands of workers in the never used Selective Service agency. All federal employees seem to land on their feet. Lots of them play golf full time now. Life is good, as it were.

In the first place, the danged goobermint knows who you are and where you are anyway, if you are an even remotely law-abiding citizen.

8:32 has a valid point. Once the US completes it's conversion to socialism there will be nobody left to save anybody's bacon (including ourselves) when the shit hits the fan. I suppose we could contact the French and take lessons from them in surrender techniques and wine and cheese eating. We seem to be following them with our border security plan.

I am a happy capitalist knowing that if I try hard and succeed I can. Check out the socialists who want everyone to 'the same' with their countries providing everything but happiness.
