The Supreme Court's longest serving member and a conservative stalwart noted for his intellect has died during a hunting trip. Justice Antonin Scalia was 79.
The passing sets off what will surely be a spirited political debate and fight who fills the spot on the nine member court long known for its near even split on many issues.
Republicans will no doubt slow walk the confirmation of any Obama nominee in hopes of getting the issue before the next President. However this will become an issue in the campaign and could spark on national debate on an issue not currently being debated.
Before Justice Scalia's body was at room temperature, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced no Obama nominee will be voted on.
