Friday Evening

Tonight I stopped at Reed and Benoit for Jim Brett's calling hours. The former Councilman and radio executive passed recently at 87.
Jim Brett's life was one of being an old school politician, visiting many calling hours himself and always there at fires and community events. He cared about Watertown and his community spirit will be missed.
By the way....I just realized the calling hours were the first time this year I wore a tie.....Yes !
Got a call from the WDT today asking for my comment on a story they are running. It was a complicated topic and I was busy waiting on customers. Through are the days I am interrupting business to talk to the press. The reporter concluded, asking if I was declining comment, I said no, I'll have ample comment, but at a time and place of my choosing.
Chatted with Ralph Green today who gave me some advice on hand dryers. He was very helpful.
Tomorrow is the chili cook off and I have a meeting in the morning as well  I will be working in the afternoon, and I am keeping Saturday evening open to watch the GOP debate. There are seven men. The one remaining woman was excluded by ABC, the network of Stephanopolis.
Had a nice chat with Councilwoman Macaluso today, as well.

Was the WDT story about the rumored sex incident in a city hall restroom that people are talking about?

Jeff Graham said...

I hadn't heard about that, but come to think of it , it could be related.

Anonymous said...

More likely the blog investgation end by WPD, right? Big surprise.

So, what is the rumored sex incident? I guess I am out of the loop.

Anonymous said...

Who cares...

I get screwed at city hall every time I go to pay my tax bill...

Hopefully it was just a couple of people who thrive on doing it in public. I would hate to think it would be people who work there. ugghh

I read Watertown Times Article today. I am completely flabbergasted. Ms. Addison is at it again with T Demar. What is her problem? She is insisting again that he be transferred back to the station. She claims there is a need for a fire capt. Give me a break lady. This is just more petty crap from your vindictive personality. So now the city will have to spend how much? to train someone else to do the job Mr. Demar is already qualified to do. If you need another captain, promote someone on a provisional basis to fill the need. Case closed no extra expense for the taxpayers. Is just a little bit of common sense to much to ask for?

Re 2:45 WDT article

This is such BS. The WPD should have recused themselves from this investigation in the first place. The city manager said it would be a conflict of interest for Mr. Demar to serve on the council. Funny she didn't have the same concerns about someone working for a sitting NY Senator running for council. If you recall, she stated at the time; "there can only be one Boss, and that Boss is me." After seeing how she retaliated against Mr. Demar and continues to wage war the Fire Dept., no wonder why the WPD fell lock step with the Boss. I think the WDT should put up a poll for the taxpayers to vote how they feel about the job the city manager is doing.

Wow! Yet another scandal at City Hall! I wonder Who is covering this one up?

Anonymous said...

This cannot be happening again. Why is the city manager wasting more taxpayer money? The Fire Chief should stand up and call her out. As I understand it, the city manager serves at the pleasure of the city council. So I encourage all of the citizens with "I support the WFD" signs in their front yard to call a council member and express your displeasure with her actions.

Oh Boy! Here comes Addison Vs. DeMar part 2.
With the mew members of council, this could get very interesting. I would like to see a resolution of no confidence in the city manager be brought up before the council. Let's get the current council on record going forward as far as who supports her and who does not.

Same old games coming out of the city managers office.
I say do away with the position of city manager.
Create a new position of City Treasurer to work in concert with the City Comptroller and make the position of Mayor Full Time.
A move like this would give the voters more control in the day to handling of City Business.

In regards to this scandal, two key questions need to be asked.

Who has the power to stop the investigation?

Who has the power to cover it up?

Hey Hey HO HO

Addison has got to Go!

Hey Hey HO HO

Addison has got to Go!

Would be music to a lot of peoples ears I suspect.

The whole Todd DeMar reassignment is totally bogus and political on Ms. Addison's part. She is yet again thumbing her nose at the Fire Department by saying I can do what ever I want, when ever I want. Completely sickening. Come on Watertown, wake up! How much longer are we going to put up with this crap! Do you realize that the money she has wasted fighting OUR Fire Department could have covered the cost of the concession stand, Dog Park and the water fountain. Just sad, very sad. Whos is the biggest loser in all this? Us the taxpayers.

Anonymous said...

Addison needs to go now, worst CM this city has ever seen.

Anonymous said...

DeMar retired in a couple years, right? Anyone think it makes sense to begin to train someone up? Is codes a Captains job? Just asking, no sarcasm intended.

In the Summer months they usually use the Gazebo for outdoor sex.....

The faux outrage over a blog comment was a political stroke of genious. There was no crime. The background of a candidate is fair game to discuss, and the newspaper printed the same facts, attributed to the candidate.
Who posted it ? It was either Demar to create a fuss or it was the attorney trying to discredit the candidate he didn't want to win.
Who called for the "investigation" ?
What is strange is Demar lost his protection from the mayor and is now being persecuted again by the manager. Or is this the fight the City wants to take minimum manning to court ?
Graham must be glad he is departed from this soap opera.

I wonder why it is only the Fire Department Mz. Addison has problems with? You never hear anything about the Police Department relationship. I wonder why that is?

Anonymous said...

I would like to see newzjunky conduct a poll on which side the public is on. The city manager or the Fire Department? Let's settle this openly out in the public once and for all! No more secret meetings behind closed doors with way overpaid lawyers just grinding this out at the taxpayers expense. What say you newzjunky?

Anonymous said...

It's a good thing the 3rd floor doesn't have a balcony. If it did, Madame El Duce~ would be out there spewing her venom every time a fire truck went by on the way to a call for help.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Mayor, how true your comments are about Mr. Brett. We could certainly use someone who cares about this town with the true community spirit he exhibited right about now.
He would find this dispute with the fire department disgraceful and would not shy away from letting his opinion be known.
Who on this current council has an ounce of his gumption? Anyone? Any leaders present? Anyone with political courage to buck the SW corner office?
Speak now or be prepared to be spoken to by the electorate in the next election.

Anonymous said...

The are no profiles in courage with this current bunch in the council chamber. That much is for damn sure. Bums, the whole lot of em. Ole Jim Brett would be out raising holy hell. oh my. God Bless him. I'd be willing to bet he'd be at the firehouse every night showing his support for our finest.

Anonymous said...

Ha. The newzjunky link is about a sex rumor. When you get here, everybody is talking bout the city manager and fire dept. Think maybe the press might get a clue from this? Hey Donald, we got stupid leaders who can't make a deal in this town also. Maybe Ann & Brian will get on it Monday. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

Anonymous said...

After reading the times story and all of this on here. I'd say Mr. Fox has some more reporting to do. He just scraped the tip of the iceberg of all this mess.

re 12:32

If I recall correctly, it was the City Attorney who called for the Investigation. Which very well could have been requested with a wink and nod. Kinda like a Government smoke screen. After all, we know who he is a hand puppet for. We also know who the PD is in bed with.

I doubt Todd posted the info himself. If there was any shred there, the City would have thrown him under the bus so quick our heads would still be spinning.

So we are left to wonder. But the cloud of foul play still lingers.

I hope that such stress does result in a domestic abuse call to the WPD.

Holey ship batman ! Thirty comments here by the fire queens!
Which was a bigger loser, the five people that advocate for the dog or the five fire department employees who advocate for sticking it to the tax payers? Both lost big time in the election.

That is a great idea that these fire department union has about getting rid of the city manager. Who wants a city manager that won't right a blank check for the fire department and let the fire chief run the department with no input from the person hired to manage the city? Just the voters, that's who !!!

Do you think it is possible for an employee close to retirement age to change his stripes and stop being a habitual problem employee? Probably not, huh? Do you think he ever gets up in the morning and thinks, "if I just did my job and quit trying to cause problems over nothing, my life wouldn't be so screwed up"?

Anonymous said...

It didn't take newzjunky long to pull this link down when the conversation took a different direction. This happens to be a local discussion with 30 comments too. Must have gotten a call from some woman in particular complaining.

Anonymous said...

I guess the old adage that you can't fight city hall is true.
It's good to be Queen

Anonymous said...

Can you say cover-up? Trust me DeMar is not the problem it is the city leadership. He is just the one standing up against it. Are you trying to tell me that the police couldn't come up with the IP address? BS. If this had been a threat against the mayor, City Manager, President of the US, are you telling me that they would not have found out who did it? Total and complete cover up intended to protect someone in a high position. Time for some change in this town.

Fasten Your Seatbelts Watertown!

The alleged sex incident is TRUE. The person involved is consulting with another Law Agency for advice on how to proceed. The main fear of going local first, is that it will be swept under the rug and labeled an internal matter. When the person and attorneys feel comfortable that he/she can proceed with overwhelming evidence to negate retribution for whistle blowing, this case will move publicly forward.

Get ready, this is going to be a bombshell! Heads will roll.

805. Every time you open you mouth you say something even more stupid. It is the taxpayers that want the fire department to remain in tact. Haven't you seen all the signs or is your blindness selective? I have known Mr. DeMar for many years and is he hardly a problem employee. What the city doesn't like about him is the fact that he stands up for himself and doesn't take this shi*.. As a x city employee myself I applaud him for taking all the heat to get the word out. The CM den't care about the employees and takes every opportunity to screw them.

Also, I just wonder how much of your private information the city has in its possession and if you would want your social security number or late payments posted for all to see. You are one of the most ignorant people I have seen 805. Do us all a favor and go back to the trailer park.

Mr. Horbacz will be on with Genn Curry this Monday. We expect some straight talk on the Ms. Addison Vs. Fire Department fight. We also expect to hear some straight talk on the 60,000 grant deal. We also want some straight talk if you have confidence in the way Ms. Addison is managing our city. We also want some straight talk on Ms. Addison Vs. Todd DeMar part 2. We also want to hear some straight talk on the city hall sex scandal. What we don't want to hear is; I'm not sure? I'll will have to look into it... I wasn't aware of that...
It's time to go on record Sir.
We will be listening.

Anonymous said...

Let the poll begin, whether its newz junky or WDT. I bet neither steps up tom the plate. Mayor how about your blog?

Anonymous said...

I don't want to hear about any sex scandal. Unless it was a Clinton type scandal where someone used their position of power to trick a 19 year old employee into having sex in exchange for a $90k job at Revlon, it doesn't matter to me.
Everyone laughs at the suggestion that the fire guy is not a habitual problem employee. The voters spoke on this and they said they don't believe what the agitator says.

Lets get some popcorn, sit back and watch, to see if the council will terminate the city manager because she will not side with the fire fighters and instead sides with the tax payers. Who does this woman think she is to go against automatic OT for a man? She needs to remember we got rid of the last woman that thought she could get away with ignoring what the men told her to do.

8:05, come up with something new would you. Same ole, same ole every post. Maybe just come to terms the taxpayers are sick of the corruption in city hall and have had enough of this poor excuse of a manger wasting our tax dollars. Never seen any managers tenure with this much turbulence, mis-management, corruption and petty squabbles. Curry is right this city is spiraling down hill fast with Addison holding the flush handle.

Anonymous said...

Why would anyone use those tiny bathrooms for sex. There are plenty of private spots in the basement. But even if someone did get it on, so what ?

Anonymous said...

re 2:26 pm
Another way to go about this would be to collect a list of signatures of the citizens of Watertown against Addison. Then present the list to the council at the next meeting. That way it is officially on the record that the public has no-confidence in the city manager.

I see the Wicked Witch of the SW corner at city hall is at it again. I'll get you firefighters.... and your little demar too.....haaahaaaahaaa

Anonymous said...

Demar is going to retire in a couple of years anyway. At least that's what he said during election time. Wouldn't it make sense someone gets trained for the code position now? With his rank, he should be leading from the front training the new firefighters. He is a captain after all.

Anonymous said...

This blog reads more like a gossip column lately.

1218. I have worked for one of the local school districts for years. When I have a question I know who I call. Mr. Demars is very knowledgeable and always willing to help. I know that many other in the area also contact him when they need some guidance. It seems a shame to loose such a knowledgeable person. Codes can be very complicated and sometimes difficult to understand. I feel that we should get all we can from the investment that we have have in him. I hope the city comes to their senses. There is no savings if we take him out and put someone else in his place right? Combine this with the expected costs to certify someone else (courses, per-diem, lost time, lost productivity, mistakes etc...) and I just can't see the city's reason for the change. Leave him where he is, this way we get two more years (at least) out of our investment, just saying.

Cody Horbacz said in his interview on the radio today that he "made some calls and the sex incident is not true." What the hell do you know about it? It's because of prejudgmental jerks like you that the victim is too scared to come forward with the charges. F-ing A-hole

Anonymous said...

There is simply no proof at this time that any such incident has taken place. The rumor was that two people were caught having sex, not that there was a sexual assault. If someone was victimized, it is important that they come forward. You cannot blame Cody when there is no proof or accusation that anything happened. Believe me, he would be the first to come to a victim's aid.

Anonymous said...

I support the person in whether he or she decides to go public or not. Quite often in theses circumstances the public shaming and sentiment to blame the victim is worse than the incident it's self. Just look at what the Clinton accusers have had to endure. Can you imagine what would happen in this one horse town? The poor person wouldn't even be able to go to the store and buy milk without enduring whispers and finger pointing. Just sad.
