Caustic Comments..What Do They Mean ?

The last couple days I have noticed a lot of acrimonious comments about City Hall, even though there was nothing here posted on City issues, particular anything about the Fire Department or members thereof.
The stories about a rest room incident are the most curious sounding. A news person was asking me about that today.
I post the comments as I think there is a simmering angst in some quarters, but I am just not sure what its all about, and frankly some of them are out there.
As one now detached from the process it seems the public needs in both city and county government, as it is in the towns, a chief executive who is elected and can determine events as a representative of the public. There is no substitute for the linkage to the people.
The current system creates a legislative branch which sort of oversees an executive function and when there is dissent, situations become difficult.
It's also too easy for the electeds to walk away from controversy by saying they have no say over key decisions.
The ability to instantly marshall public opinion through the Internet means a passive or a complicit media can't stop disdain from growing.
Like I said, I view comments with interest as they are indicative of something out there.

I don't know what you are talking about.
When there is a dog park controversy, one guy gets about five others to make comments here and make noise disproportionately loud compared to their small numbers. The same thing happens with the city fire department. The way I see it, you get a lot more negative comments about things like Stefanik, who is wildly popular, than you do about city business.

Are you talking about the detachment of the city manager from the people of Watertown? If so, I agree. I think we should have a full time Mayor setting the agenda. That way the Mayor and council can hash things out and still be accountable to the voters. The current city manager system gives her all the power of someone with tenure. She can rule without impunity and leaves the public without recourse to keep her in check.

I think some of it might be the Trump effect this election. I think his message of us being led by stupid people hits home. Especially when it comes to wasteful spending and the lack of having the ability to make a deal and get things done.

If I'm reading this correctly, it might be time to power down the manager position to admin support, peel off some wages and create full time mayor position with commensurate wages accountable to the public.

7:12 You are spot on! This is what we needs to done for the good of the city. How do we make it happen?

Dictators have fallen all over the world. I think it's high time for the City of Watertown to be liberated from our Tyrant. Empower the Mayor and the council and give the power back to the people!

Is Congresswoman Stefanik in fact "wildly popular" #821P?
Her voting record sure isnt. Nor her many failed campaign promises. It surprises me to see your posting about seeing more comments regarding Elise. Many times my honest, documented failings of Ms. Stefanik are delete for no good reason. I'll be surprised if this post makes it past the mayor's filter.

Ha! See what I mean??? Above are the same three people who wrote all 40+ comments on your city hall thread. They are no doubt city fire employees who probably know who set the cars on fire and who set the building on fire on election day.

You can bet if the people were truly unhappy with the city manager, we would hear abut it more often than when a problem employee is getting a hard time from her.

Personally I think she is too soft. I would have fired a problem employee a long time ago even if I had to trump up some falsifying time card charges. If any employees in city hall have any sense of ethics, they would help set this guy up to help get rid of him.

This would be a conflict of interest with the current officeholder.

I would agree with the assessment on the city manager. It was a risky hire from the start. Maybe Mrs. Corriveau wasn't so bad after all. 12:37 and 7:12 are spot on.

8:04 Yes sir, she is wildly popular, failings in your eyes, now why did you ever think she would be interested in seeing the military of the United States take an interest and weigh the national security of our country to climate change? You just can't make everyone happy. Look no further than the dislike we had of the former Democrat, Independent Representative Owens. How many times was he physically here on our side of the district. Did I obsessively research and document every vote, not at all, we just took him out when we had the right candidate in Elise.

8:33 Are you kidding us "If any employees in city hall hall have any sense of ethics, they would help set this guy up to help get rid of him" Really?

Anonymous said...

OMG. Crazy Ray and the lady with a crush on Jeff that call the hotline fawning, over the top right there.

833. I think your ethics should be questioned as well. How dare you make accusations against the firemen without anything more than an ignorant rant. As far your assertion that someone should trump something up to get rid of an employee this too displays your ignorance. Obviously, if there is the need to make something up then there is nothing of real substance there. The people are very displeased with the city manager as is evident here. Maybe someone should trump something up against you, then again, I am sure they don't need to, you are obviously guilty of something. Get some ethics!!!!

It's not hard to figure out who goes around town saying this or that. It's all the same suspects. Scott Gates loves telling us we all are just stupid hicks for not wanting a million dollars spent on dogs. Any other place has no problem doing so. Glenn throws up the fact Watertown is failing in every show he does as of late. I think he means well, but it's getting old. Heads of the county think we should allow every business in the area to pay nothing in taxes. Sorry certain business. Not all. Local Rep. leadership is still butt hurt about someone they didn't put up winning the Congress seat. They didn't get their boy. A man, as we learned, who had many issues. Issues that would have swamped that position in weeks. Local Dems. dislike the fact that local Dems. don't vote for Dems. It's funny, and true. Independents vote for Dems. and Reps. Truly no one has a good hold on their party in this burg. All they spend their time on is dishing the other guy. I liked it when the head of the Rep. Party was busy building places like the Paddock Arcade and not putting time into owning us. Same with the Dems. They did so much for the building by the paper. Time for all to get back into building Watertown. Not pulling it down.

Horbacz vs. Glenn Curry Tonight

Tonight will tell us a lot where Mr. Horbacz stands on the current issues. I want to here real answers to real questions. Where do you stand on real issues? I don't want to hear about the good things going on with this or that playground. The parks & rec dept. are well compensated to handle such matters.
Here are a couple topics...
1. Firefighter Contract?
2. 60,000 Grant Money?
3. Does the City Manger have too much unchecked and unelected power?
4. Concession Stand?
5. Naming rights to Arena?
6. Water Fountain?
Tonight is your chance to distinguish yourself as a leader and not another follower.

Yeah 2:46, those last 3 are crucial. Only in Watertown.

We need some Trump in Watertown.
MAKE WATERTOWN GREAT AGAIN!
Who out there can stand up and lead the way...

Dear Madam Manager:
If you are reading this, I want you to know that I may be of invaluable assistance to you. I have much experience in legally terminating problem employees, in spite of the constrains of union contracts and agency law. If you are interested in learning my no fail meathod, you may contract me by email at taxpayersavior@gmail.com
I am confident I can help you put this matter to rest quickly, with little effort and no risk. And the best part is you will not have worry about it being overturned.

7:38, I am sure you win a lot of cases, must be your team of paralegals does your spelling for you. I am sure your record of winning cases is about as good as Slye & Burrows

I am just about pissed off enough to retire and run for council my self. And no, I do not work at the fire department. But I will make it my mission to recruit two other votes to deny renewal of the city managers contract. That much I can promise you. Consider yourselves on notice Jennings & Macaluso.

Graham was right about new council.
I tuned in to listen to Cody H on the live at five earlier tonight. I found Cody to be ill informed and under prepared to talk any specifics about the issues discussed tonight. I understand that he is new and is still feeling things out. But he did a lot of dancing around the qestions and a lot of humina humina humina..... very disappointing. Graham was right, lambs to the slaughter.

Why be anonymous 738? Do you have a way to get rid of a problem CM too? Hate to tell you but its nearly impossible to get rid of a government employee that actually does a good job simply because you do not like them. Ever heard of the Constitution? Due Process? How about New York State Civil Service Law? By all indications this "problem employee" is pretty good at his job. Good enough to get promoted by the last administration anyway. Remember Brenda Harwood? Got her job back and all the pay and benefits that go along with it too. The city should try doing the right thing for once and stop being vindictive and controlling.

I'm sure they're scared 8:02, not...

Good for you 802. Just expect that if you do run the powers that be will be against you just like the last guy who tried to stand up and say enough. Guess they don't want those rocks overturned. Expect lies, stolen records, distortions, and constant lies against you by the ones that fear the truth coming out. Hope you have very thick skin!!!! Sure like your ideas to clean out the real problems in this town tho. We need a new manager and to replace the old guard on council. Time for true people's revolution!!!! I for one will support you and I know that you will get support from most city employees too. I worked there for over 26 years and have never seen such a bunch. Sure miss Mary!!!! (never thought I would say that).

Not sure if city hall sex scandal incident is real or fake. But I have heard things about suspect activity in the first floor city hall bathroom before. It would not surprise me that if something did happen, that it more than likely happened there.

8:23, if you are not confirmed retarded, you should definitely get yourself tested.
You start by asking someone why they post anonymously, while you yourself are posting anonymously.

You address a poster who mentions civil service law and ask that poster if they ever heard of civil service law.

BTW...Brenda is gone and the city has already saved more money than if she were still here.

"I don't often drink kool Aid, but when I do, it is fire union red Kool Aid. Stay stupid my friends."

Not sure how the COW has saved money. The general fund, water and sewer have dipped into their reserve funds. Try reading the budget report from Mills and previous budgets.

I agree 100% with Mayor Graham on the issue of giving more power to that office. Make the Mayor position a full time executive position. Gives the voters more say in how things get done.

More Caustic Comments: Things sure are interesting around here lately. The craigs list rants & raves people were at war with self appointed Glenn Curry REP (Justin) yesterday. I'm sure Glenn loved that. At any rate it sure was entertaining. The local fireworks have been about as good as the political fireworks!
