Arena Nears Completion

City Council will again tour the Watertown Municipal Arena, checking up on the progress in the $10M plus rehab project expected to be complete next month.
The facility will host a variety of activities but has been controversial due to cost and certain design issues.

Can't wait to hear the Council's revelations after this tour.

I'm glad that your staying involved this was a great thing you worked for you Mrs. Burns deserve a lot of credit for making something positive happen. People complain about the cost with knowing very little about Public Projects how much they really are. The Arena has good potential I believe a Semi Pro Lacrosse Team like in Rochester would benefit the City of Watertown.Just as the current Hockey team does Cut the red tape in Government things would not be that much money it is so much BS to really get things done. Joe Butler along with Patty's Youngster do not need to bring in consultants for them to make the right decision. last time that happened it was a mess. I think those cool guys can make things happen. Cody is a business kind of guy. I like the new council....I pay my Taxes so before you run your mouths about your not the one fitting the bill, I pay my fair share. I'm very happy about the Arena project..Ms. Gardner even though cocky at times, is very capable of running a project of this size. You should be proud...

After peeking in there I have to wonder where the money went? Concession poorly laid out let alone not finished; smaller and cheap scoreboard; and dasher boards are cheaper and heavier than previous ones. Why didn't they at least have a good layout of the concession? Why wasn't old scoreboard used to save money rather than one of laser value? Why weren't old dasher boards used to save coasts especially when they were better than the ones being installed? What else is going on in this money pit?

1:35 - surely you cannot be overly surprised! Come on now. It was only $10M+...

And an learning experience for Parks and Rec after all. Good training experience.

Not a guarantee that it will have users. Semi-pro teams have not worked out. The upgrade for the arena was talked about over 10 years ago and this council (past council) was late to the party and it's killing taxpayers with cost. I have to wholeheartedly disagree with 1:09. If Mr. St. Croix was there it would stand a chance. I don't see it being used to it's capacity with the current staff.

When St. Croix was there we might not have cashed all the checks but Parks and Rec sure was not costing us what it is these days. Think its time Addison go and take her buddy Gardner with her. Bring back St. Croix and Corriveau

Absolutely - and let them double dip! They deserve that. No charge!!! Wonder if Jamie will cash HIS checks?

Horbacz sounded totally clueless talking to Glenn Curry about the concession stand today.

I do not catch your thinking Mary is done, she is on to greener pastor, why would we not encourage people like Gardner to move further up? somebody from here to run city Government. You just want to bash them for making a decent living? I believe they are working for there money in the City Of Watertown with all the projects going on. I believe Gardner is a local name! why would you try to push that talent away. Time to bring some more people who where born and raised in the City, into city Government.

I do like Glenn and his show, but seems whenever he has a guest on Glenn does most of the talking and barely gives the guest a chance to answer his questions. He rapid fire talks, adult ADHD I guess.

9:34PM - Were we listening to the same interview? Because the Horbacz I heard on Glenn's show hit it right on the head. But please enlighten us.

Why not make the concession stand into an indoor dog park and name the place the sg and fluffy municipal arena,or whatever his critters name is,kill two birds with one stone.

Yah - go for local talent and shun those from away (Addison) who might actually have a viewpoint shaped by relevant experience vs. homegrown, all I know is what you all know too smarts. Yuppers. MMM-HMMM. Maybe a utility guy? Or a "wealth" manager? Or a NFP leader? LOL.

I agree..cody was spot on. There will be people who don't want to listen to what is being said, they just choose to hear what they want. As for local talent Gardner...I don't get that at all. What talent is there to run a recreation department that basically does whatever the council and city manager tells them to do. Chase away? Is this a division 1 football coaching job?? That may be the dumbest comment I have seen on here yet. As for Mr St Croix and his one person staff, I am in agreement. Bookkeeping errors, yes..costs were much lower and moral much higher. And, the arena was being used.

What part of the city do you reside in Justun? I thought you lived in Felts Mills or Carthage???

Just look at the over inflated coat for the kitchen. Can you imagine the inflated waste for the rest of the building?

2:04 Are you saying that Juston does not pay any city taxes? If that is the case, why is he chastising us for our taxpaying opinions?

Juston, if Cody is such a great business kind of guy; then why did he not bother to ask any questions about the $188,000 the city spent demolishing the Bull Tavern? And why was he one of the council members that was shocked to learn how much the grant consultants fee cost? Which turned out to be $60,000. The newly minted council just dropped a total of $248,000 without as much as a peep. And if they just accept this arena kitchen mugging without any questioning, we will be up to $398,000. If this pattern continues, we won't have to worry about settling the firefighter contract, we'll already be bankrupt by that point.

To your point 2:04, where did you vote last year Justun?
Or more specifically, your polling place?

I'm not saying Justin doesn't live in the city, I'm saying Google says, tha. Justin must have VERY recently joined us here...
What say you Jusun?
